The National Lottery Authority (NLA), will on December 9, this year, flood the country with the director generals and others who matter in the lottery industry on the African continent and across the globe to climax its 60th anniversary celebration.
The event is expected to set the stage for knowledge sharing among the big and respected actors in the lottery space which, includes Ghana’s NLA.
This was disclosed at the launch of the Authority’s 60th-anniversary celebration in Accra on Thursday September 29, 2022, where a Deputy Minister for Finance, charged the NLA, to adopt new strategies to ensure revenue leakages in the system are blocked and revenue generation improved.
This, according to John Kumah, would help the government to raise the needed revenue to boost the country’s revenue generation for national development and also fund the activities of the NLA.
The Deputy Minister for Finance, said this at the launch of the Authority’s 60th-anniversary celebration in Accra and implored the staff and management of the Authority to be mindful of how they handle revenue generation in their operations.
The climax of the anniversary is scheduled for December 9, when all director generals of the lottery within the African continent, will converge in Accra to support and participate in the anniversary celebration.
He commended staff, management, and board members of the NLA for their hard work in supporting the government with Ten Million Ghana Cedis (Gh¢10,000,000.00) in the YouStart Programme, reminding them of their role in contributing to the growth of the country.
Mr Kumah, added that the government in an attempt to address the unemployment situation in the country has introduced U-Start and NLA has been one of the key partners in contributing funds for the programme.
He said the impact of revenue generation on national development cannot be underestimated and persons who support the government in that aspect must be recognized for their efforts.
The Director General of the NLA, Samuel Awuku, paid glowing tribute to the past Directors of the Authority for establishing the NLA.
He added that, in the 60 years of the formation of the NLA, the institution has been able to generate significant revenue for national development, touching lives, communities and institutions.
Mr Awuku, noted that after the establishment of the NLA some years ago, the Authority can confidently boast of exemplifying its mandate to make all stakeholders ultimate winners, adding “it has been 60 years of making our patrons millionaires”.
He revealed that, the Authority has also dedicated the month of October 2022, to its cherished customers whom the NLA recognize as their most valued assets.
He added that November is also scheduled for the NLA’s “Good Causes” indicating that the Authority will give back to society by commissioning some projects in various parts of the country.
Mr Awuku, also commended all the board members, former Director-Generals, management, and staff both past and present who have worked tirelessly to keep the NLA afloat.
The Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame, in a goodwill message, congratulated the NLA on reaching the 60-year milestone in its history.
He also commended the NLA board members, management, and staff for embarking on a restructuring exercise to drive efficiency to rebuild the image of the NLA by initiating the re-launch of the Caritas Lottery Platform.
Mr Dame, further pointed out that the NLA, has contributed immensely to the development of the economy saying; sixty years of existence in any person’s life is no mean feat.
He stated that the 60th-anniversary celebration with its patrons ensures that every member of the staking public had an opportunity, adding that NLA, gives people the opportunity to dream about what they desire if they won the lottery.
