Ghana will face Nigeria in the final round of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers after the draw for the play-offs was conducted on Saturday in Doula, Cameroon.

The winner will qualify for the World Cup in Qatar later this year.

Ghana are bidding to make a return to the global showpiece after missing out on the 2018 edition. Nigeria, meanwhile, were in Russia and are confident of a second consecutive appearance.

Considering current form, Nigeria are favourites. The Super Eagles are flying high in the ongoing 2021 Africa Cup of Nation. They reached the knockout stage with a 100 percent record, winning all three group games – the only team to do so.

On the other hand, the Black Stars went out after a poor performance in the group stage.

However, the games will be played in March, more time for Ghana to present a competitive team.

The draw also threw up other dramatic ties. One of Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah will not be in Qatar because Senegal have been drawn against Egypt.

Cameroon are up against soon to be dethroned African champions Algeria, who suffered a similar fate as Ghana, in the Afcon.

DR Congo who last featured at the World Cup in 1974, face a tough opposition in Morocco and Mali play Tunisia in a repeat of the Afcon group stage clash which was marred by controversy.
