Alhaji Said Sinare, a stalwart of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has thrown his support behind the current National Chairman of the party, Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, to beat his challenger, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah.
The National Chairman, is seeking a re-election bid in the party’s pending national delegates congress. The NDC will hold its national delegates congress on December 17, 2022.
Last Wednesday, Mr Ofosu-Ampofo, submitted his nomination form at the party’s headquarters in Accra, with lots of party bigwigs, including Lawyer Sam Pee Yalley, an ambassador in the John Mahama government in attendance.
Aside the outgoing General Secretary Asiedu Nketiah, one Samuel Yaw Adusei, a former Ashanti Regional Minister is also in the contest.
Sometime last week, the onetime Ghana’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, who issued a statement and indicated his non-intention to run again for his current position as the national vice-chairman, said the National Chairman has his unalloyed support.
He explained that the loyalty of Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo to the party is one of the main reasons for his support for his re-election bid.
“I am endorsing Chairman Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo for a number of reasons, including his widespread acceptance throughout the nation, his loyalty to the party, as well as the competence, brilliance, and tenacity demonstrated over the past four years while serving as a National Chairman.
“In addition, I admire the chairman for being honest, unifying, and open in both his professional and personal lives. You can be sure that I didn’t make this choice on the spur of the moment. After giving each of the other candidates an equal evaluation, I have determined that Hon. Samuel Ampofo is, in a lot of ways, far superior to the others,” portions of his statement said.
He had explained that “Comrades, in accordance with our party’s internal rules and as we get closer to the National Conference in a few days, I would like to appeal to our dear delegates and other party members for their cooperation and support in retaining Hon. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo as our National Chairman.
“As far as our internal elections are concerned, our goal must be the success of our party, and the candidates we choose must inspire confidence and a sense of victory among Ghanaians and among the good members of our party even before the crucial general elections of 2024.”
“He is a politician who has been de-tribalized, a man whose humanity, philanthropy, and respect for everyone, regardless of tribe, religion, or political affiliation, define him. He truly embodies national harmony and puts his party’s interests first.
After filing the nomination forms, Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo indicated that although he is in a difficult moment after losing his mother recently, he deems it important to stay strong and attend to the call to duty to serve his party. “Comrades, ever since I made known my intentions to contest for re-election to lead the NDC once again, many of you have shown me great support and I truly appreciate all your calls, messages of encouragement, and support in diverse ways.
“Today is not a day for long speeches, but even as I continue to mourn the passing of my mother, duty calls that I work hard for my re-election and with your support, we can rescue our beloved country from the clutches of the Akuffo-Addo/Bawumia/NPP government that has brought untold hardship on Ghanaians through bad governance, economic mismanagement, and corruption,” the incumbent NDC National Chairman hopeful said.
Ahead of the 2024 general election, Chairman Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo says the slogan ‘No retreat’ No surrender” shall be adopted.
In his quest to seek re-election, the NDC National Chairman has pledged to continue to build an all-inclusive party, united and focused under the guidance of its core values of freedom, transparency, solidarity, probity, and accountability.
He adds that he will ensure there is a review of the party constitution to reflect the new reality of the role of the council of elders and their life experiences.
Among other things, Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo has assured that when given the mandate to continue serving, he will work in unity with all elected officers and the council of elders to restore the centrality and integrity of the party.
“Finally, I wish to respectfully and humbly urge and entreat all delegates to vote for me come December 17th. Be assured that a vote for me is a vote for unity, a stronger party, inclusiveness, hard work, and ultimately victory in 2024. I am the people’s chairman and I have an unfinished agenda, vote for me to lead the NDC to win the 2024 elections and form the next government,” Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo concluded in his speech.
