National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress, Mr Sammy Gyamfi, has accused the government of causing the deaths of 19 innocent Ghanaians who died as a result of their inaccessibility to the Renal Dialysis Unit of the Korle Bu Teaching hospital last year.
This, he explained was as a result of the closure of the facility due to government indebtedness of Ghc4milion.
Drawing the linkage at the Moment of Truth series at the party’s headquarters on Monday February 19, 2024, Mr Gyamfi, said the $12m wasted by the government on the botched “ Agyapa’ Minerals Royalty Deal, could have easily paid for several months of treatment for these 19 who eventually passed away.
In the view of the NDC‘s Communications head, the New Patriotic Party government has demonstrated high level of insensitivity in corrupt practices which has negatively affected the lives of Ghanaians.
Aside from the deaths of the 19, Mr Gyamfi who is also a lawyer, expressed the belief that the $ 12m which is converted into Ghana cedis as Ghc 153m, could have also bought childhood vaccines for the protection of children against killer diseases.
Mr Gyamfi, who was disgusted at the revelation of the cost of transacting the “ Agyapa” Minerals Royalty at $ 12 m, wondered if the amount would not have also helped procure textbooks for basic school children who have gone five years without curricular based textbooks.
The lost of the $12 m in the “ Agyapa “ deal came to light at the Public Account Committee when the Chief Executive Officer of the Minerals Income Investment Fund , Mr Edward Nanayaw Koranteng, appeared before the committee.
Some of these corrupt practices, had however been established by the then Special Prosecutor, Mr Martin Amidu in his Corruption Risk Assessment report where he noted that some illegal monies had been paid to government people .
The “ Agyapa ‘deal , Sammy Gyamfi, stressed is a clear case of willingfullly causing financial loss to the state which will he investigated and culprits punished, if the NDC comes to power .
“We in the NDC ,and all- meaning Ghanaians repose huge trust and confidence in H.E John Mahama, to pursue and retrieve for the State , public funds that have been lost to looting schemes such as this “ Agyapa “ scandal , the PDS scandal, the “BOSTGATE” scandal and other acts of naked thievery by officials of the Akufo-Addo / Bawumia government and their party apparatchiks”, he warned
The Vice President and Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, according to Sammy Gyamfi is complicit in the PDS deal, noting that he orchestrated the PDS scandal by deliberately relaxing the condition precedent requirement of a Bank Guarantee , thereby aiding PDS to defraud Ghanaians to the tune of Ghc1.5 billion in electricity tariffs.
Describing the Vice President as an appearance fees merchant, the NDC’s Communications boss, said the Vice President was fingered in the Anas Number 12 investigations as being a receiver of bribes which is referred in that circle as “ appearance fees”.
His attempt to contest the presidential election according to Mr Gyamfi is to cover up the rot if the NPP should win and for this reason Ghanaians should reject him at the polls.
