An eight-month old heavily pregnant woman, her husband and 21-month-old toddler, have suffered horrific torture and beating of their lives, after some miscreant military officers numbering about three and one civilian, stormed their home at East Legon, near EDEN International School for an alleged robbery operation.
Both, the pregnant woman, her husband, as well as the woman’s younger brother and sister were left with bruises and cuts all over their bodies.
This was after the marauding soldiers, forced to climb and enter their rooms through the balcony, locked them up in one room, ransacked the house, took the victims’ mobile phones and flogged them mercilessly.
The soldiers, who were fully dressed in military uniform, carried out the criminal operation using a rented commercial vehicle, a mini-Urvan with registration number, GR- 1096- 19.
But lack, however, eluded them when they were overpowered by a Police Patrol team, who were called and swiftly responded to rescue the victims and arrested the suspects. One of the soldiers, however, managed to escape.
Their names and ranks were given as; No. 210279 Aci Emmanuel Addo and No 210309 Aci Amankwa Yeboah, both from the Ghana Airforce.
Their civilian accomplice by name; Nana Kwame Ofosuhene alias ‘Boro’ believed to be the mastermind behind the botched robbery, was also arrested.
The incident, which is currently being investigated by the East Legon Divisional Police Command, happened on Friday, November 26, 2021, between the hours of 10:30 to 11PM, when the victims were fast asleep and the neighborhood was quiet.
At the time The Herald visited the East Legon Police Station in the morning of Saturday, November 27, 2021, the suspects were said to have been handed over to the Military Command for further action, while the civilian accomplice, has been granted bail by the East Legon Police.
The horrifying incident, has left the family traumatized, especially the one and half year-old baby girl, who was still in shock when The Herald visited the house. She could be seen acting jumpy, anytime she hears a little noise or whenever a door is slammed.
Narrating the incident to The Herald, the victims said at about 10:30PM, the suspects came to knock at the main gate of the house, but as soon as the security man opened the gate, they forcibly pushed him and entered the compound.
According to them, minutes later the suspects managed to climb the wall and entered the first floor of the storey building through the balcony and then forced the living room door open to grab the victims.
They said, even before they could utter a word, the suspects pushed them into one room and started torturing them, whiles others were busily ransacking their rooms and looting.
However, by the time they were about to run away with their booty, a police patrol team arrived leading to their arrest.
Interestingly, the victims said it was when they were at the police station that a certain guy by name Nana Kwame, said to be the childhood friend of the pregnant woman and an Uber driver, appeared at the police station and allegedly confessed that he was the one who sent the suspects to commit the dastardly act.
He was also said to have been arrested, but later granted bail. It is, however, not clear, what might have motivated the soldiers to get involved in this criminal act and whether or not they have been engaged in this nefarious activity for a very long time.
It is also unclear, whether the military high command, will crack the whip on these rogue soldiers, to serve as a deterrent to others who may be secretly involved in similar operations, which is embarrassing the revered military establishment.
