Highlighting the environmental benefits, the President explained that trees help absorb harmful carbon emissions and reduce the impact of plastic waste by strengthening natural habitats.

This national effort is part of a broader government strategy to shift public attitudes toward sustainable living and environmental protection.

The government’s commitment to this cause is further demonstrated by recent policies such as the ban on Styrofoam packaging, which encourages the use of eco-friendly alternatives that complement the tree planting goals.

President Mahama urged all Ghanaians, especially the youth, to take ownership of the environment by actively participating in the tree planting exercise and adopting responsible waste management practices.

Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Dr Murtala Mohammed, pledged unwavering support for clearing plastic waste and ensuring the success of the planting initiative.

He reiterated the ministry’s ongoing commitment to eliminating plastic pollution and restoring Ghana’s natural environment.
