In a major anti-narcotics operation, the Eastern North Regional Police Command, has intercepted a large consignment of suspected Wee, also known as Indian hemp, being transported across the Volta Lake, arresting three individuals in the process.

The suspects, Abraham Agonu, Michael Akuaku, and Confidence Amenuveve, were apprehended on Tuesday, May 28, 2025, at Asuboni, near Kwahu Adawso in the Eastern Region, while ferrying the suspected substances by boat.

According to police sources, the arrests were made during a targeted operation following intelligence about a broader smuggling syndicate believed to be operating along the Volta Lake corridor.

Preliminary investigations point to a man identified only as Felix, who is alleged to have led the operation but escaped by boarding a separate boat heading toward the Akate area.

Among the items seized were 5,950 slabs of suspected compressed and uncompressed Indian hemp, packed in 85 maxi sacks, one pump-action shotgun, two outboard motors, and a large engine boat used in the illicit transport.
