Domestic airline PassionAir has refuted widespread media reports suggesting that one of its flights to Takoradi returned mid-air to Accra due to a fuel shortage.

In a press statement issued on Saturday, the airline clarified that Flight OP 122, which departed from Accra at 6:18 a.m. on 31 May 2025, was forced to return shortly after takeoff, not due to fuel issues but as a precaution following an unrelated cockpit indication.

“Approximately six (6) minutes after take-off, the captain elected to return to base due to an indication received in the flight deck not related to fuel,” the statement read.

PassionAir confirmed that the aircraft landed safely in Accra, where ground engineers promptly began diagnostics to identify and rectify the issue. All passengers were disembarked safely in accordance with standard operating procedures.

“After troubleshooting and rectification of the fault, the aircraft was returned to service. Refuelling was carried out as per standard operating procedure,” the airline noted.

A follow-up flight, OP 122A, later departed without incident.

PassionAir emphasised that the safety and comfort of its passengers remain its highest priorities and reaffirmed its strict adherence to aviation regulatory standards.

The airline also apologised to affected passengers and the general public for any inconvenience caused by the misleading reports and urged the public to disregard claims of a fuel shortage.

“We sincerely apologise to all passengers on board the affected flight and to the public for any inconvenience caused by such unverified information. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation,” the statement concluded.
