The Paramount Chief of the Apesokubi Traditional Area, Okogyeaman Asiedu Koram II, has strongly refuted claims made by descendants of Akposso immigrants from Togo that they are the indigenous inhabitants and rightful landowners of the area.
He clarified that, the Apesokubi Traditional Area, is the rightful domain of the indigenous people, and the attempts by the Akposso immigrants to assert themselves as the traditional authorities, are unfounded.
This was in response to a press conference organised recently by defendants of “Akposso” immigrant settlers living in the Apesokubi Traditional Area, he described it as entirely fabricated and has no basis in truth.
It will be recalled that recently, there was a press conference organised by some descendants of Akposso immigrants from Togo, who have settled in the Apeso Kubi Traditional Area, claiming that they are the indigenous inhabitants of Apeso Kubi and the rightful landowners.
Okogyeaman Asiedu Koram II, further refuted the attempt by the Akposso immigrants to rename the Traditional Area as “Akposso-kubi,” stating that, the area has been known as Apesokubi for generations, emphasizing that the legitimate traditional authorities in the area, are the indigenous people, not the Akposso settlers.
According to the Chief, the organisers of the press conference are demonstrably the direct biological descendants of individuals who migrated from the Akposso traditional political division in French Togoland/Republic of Togo to the Apesokubi Traditional Area in the early 20th century, saying that; these Akposso immigrants settled among the indigenous Akan inhabitants of the region.
Okogyeaman Asiedu Koram II, pointed out that the press conference, which was widely circulated on social media under the alarmist headline “We are being wiped off the map of Ghana,” was an attempt by the Akposso immigrants to assert their false narrative of being the indigenous people and rightful landowners of the Apesokubi Traditional Area.
However, the Paramount Chief, firmly refuted these claims, reiterating that the Apesokubi Traditional Area has a well-established history and lineage of Indigenous traditional leadership that predates the settlement of the Akposso immigrants.
“The Akposso settlers have no legitimate claim to the Apesokubi Traditional Area or its traditional authorities, their attempts to misrepresent the facts and make false assertions are completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated.” Okogyeaman Asiedu Koram II, emphasized.
The Paramount Chief, stated that all available historical evidence clearly establishes that the indigenous inhabitants of Apesokubi are Akans whose forebears acquired the area through conquest and settlement over 300 years ago.
He reiterated that the Akans have remained in uninterrupted possession and occupation of these lands through warfare, court litigations, official state inquiries, and peaceful negotiations with neighbouring traditional states.
However, Okogyeaman Asiedu Koram II, expressed deep frustration and regret that the hospitable nature of the Akan citizens in the Apesokubi Traditional Area is being taken for granted and repaid with shameless ingratitude by the Akpossos.
He denounced the “Akposso project as being founded on delusional beliefs, characterized by false narratives and plain propaganda, which are contrary to the reality borne out of incontrovertible documentary evidence.
Okogyeaman Asiedu Koram II, appealed to the “sponsors of and active participants in the ‘Akposso project’ to purge themselves of their dilutional beliefs and give peace a chance to thrive and reign supreme in the Apesokubi Traditional Area.
