The Ashanti Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Frank Amoakohene, has downplayed the potential impact of the Energy Minister, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, as running mate to flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party(NPP) Dr. Mahamud Bawumia in the upcoming elections.
Speaking on Metro TV with Newsnight anchor, Sandra Ampofoa Ofosu on Thursday, June 20, 2024, Dr Amoakohene stated that the minister’s performance has been underwhelming, citing the ongoing energy crisis as evidence.
“Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh’s selection as the running mate, is immaterial to us in the NDC. He can’t do any magic for the NPP especially looking at the hardship they have created.”
“He is the energy minister and we are still suffering from energy crisis, Dr Amoakohene added
The NDC scribe in the Ashanti Region believes that the Energy Minister and MP for Manhyia South’s candidacy will be a liability for the NPP and a weakness in Dr Bawumia’s campaign.
“He will be the weakest link of the NPP and I would be surprised if the party decides to go with him” he posited.
“So his performance is and will be a big challenge to the NPP
He will be an Achilles heel for Dr Bawumia”
Dr Amoakohene, also criticized the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) for carrying out the survey, highlighting the biases he said are “glaring”, suggesting that the NIB has done a disservice to the nation.
“If this is what the NIB has found, then they have done a great disservice to the office they occupied and the nation at large” Dr Frank Amoakohene told Sandra Ampofoa Ofosu.
