The Assin North Member of Parliament (MP) in the Central Region, is obviously in a desperate health situation over the continuous delay in passing the controversial Electronic Transfer Levy Bill; E-Levy.
Kennedy Agyapong, has shockingly revealed that he has postponed a medical trip to the US for doctors to review his health condition after his reported brain surgery late last year.
Mr Agyapong, who stormed town on the day of the 2022 Budget approval from America, where he had done the surgery, has threatened that if he sneaks out of the country for the medical review, he will not come back.
He cried saying “…I am not stupid, because I need to go on review on 28th January. Today is 23rd February. “It is your internal matters that you are not talking about, that is also affecting my health. It is affecting my health”.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP, has been in the forefront of getting Sarah Adwoa Safo back into the country, to attend to her duties as a legislator for the people of the Dome Kwabena Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, albeit using insult, threats of expulsion from Parliament among others.
One of the persons, who have tried to prevail upon him to be circumspect about the Adwoa Safo matters, the NPP’s Communications Director, Yaw Buaben Asamoa, and the ex-MP for Adenta, has since incurred the wrath of his former colleague in Parliament.
Mr Agyapong, who has since revealed how an amount of GH¢120,000, was given to him to be paid into Adwoa Safo’s Fidelity Bank account by the Akufo-Addo government, which also spent an undisclosed amount of taxpayers money to hire a private jet for Adwoa Safo to fly her into Ghana for a major decision in Parliament, has since gone berserk over issues in his party.
The Assin Central MP, has since threatened his party and its leading members to desist from impressing on him to treat issues he is raising publicly as internal matters.
He is angry at that position, because he insists that such internal matters, have had a toll on his health and caused him to miss a medical review slated for late January 2022.
The Assin Central MP, reminded the NPP that he was still in possession of incriminating videos he had intercepted from Anas Aremeyaw Anas, which videos were aimed at bringing the government to its knees in 2018.
He alleged that, leading members had impressed on him to avoid publishing the said videos, because of its adverse political effect.
He spoke of a relationship between Buaben Asamoa in particular, as an ally of Anas and his boss, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako, who he accused of working against the interest of the NPP. “If Buaben Asamoa speaks (response to him) again, I will release Anas’ videos.
The NPP leaders, I am advising them to stay away from that, no one should tell me it borders on internal matters. If you tell me that, it means I am stupid, because I need to go on review on 28th January. Today is 23rd February. “It is your internal matters that you are not talking about that is also affecting my health. It is affecting my health. You don’t want anybody to know the problem the NPP is encountering from our own MPs. If that is the case, when I go (for the medical review), I will not come back.
He issued his stern caution: “Buaben Asamoa says his friend is Anas and Kweku Baako, if he messes with me, I will release Anas’ videos. I swear to God. If the NPP are not careful and they speak, Yaw Buaben Asamoa, if you are not careful and you speak, I will bring the party down complete.
“If I bring the video, you will see even if one Ghanaian will vote for us. What Anas did as far back as February 2018, Anas had set our ministers and businessmen up in Dubai,” he stressed.
Mr Agyapong, has been in a long-running confrontation with the investigative journalist over two of his works, Undercover – ‘Ghana in the Eyes of God’ – an investigation about corruption in the judiciary and Number 12 – an investigation on corruption in Ghana Football.
He insists the journalists employ entrapment and other ‘evil’ means that are not fit to be labelled as journalism.
He began releasing inside footage of the work of Anas years back, purporting to show the modus operandi of Anas and his Tiger Eye team, but has since stopped – apparently because of pressure from the party and government.
Earlier, Buaben Asamoa, had called for Mr Agyapong, to be disciplined for his utterances against Sarah Adwoa Safo, saying the utterances of Mr Agyapong, were unfair to the lady, with whom he has two children, hence he must be disciplined.
“I don’t think Kennedy should be telling the world what we are discussing indoors, it is not fair to the party at this time. He should be disciplined,” he said.
Mr Agyapong, had raised issues against the conduct of Sarah Adwoa Safo.
He said that the Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, has failed in life for requesting that she should be made a Deputy Majority Leader in Parliament, and wondered why a cabinet minister, will now want to occupy a position that is below the rank of a Minister.
Speaking on the rampant absence of Adwoa Safo from Parliament, Mr Agyapong, who has two children with her, said: “She says she wants to be Deputy Majority, that woman has failed in life. A whole cabinet minister now demanding that she should be made a Deputy Majority Leader before she comes, she should go to hell.
“You don’t come to Parliament and you are on TikTok dancing? Dome Kwabenya is not for Apostle Kwadwo Safo, get it straight. I am very furious because people are insulting me because I went there to campaign for her. Mike Oquaye the Speaker, the man that I respect very well, I campaigned against his son because Adwoa used my kids, calling me and begging me to help her. And now everybody is insulting me for doing that but I have not regretted it, she is very responsible when it comes to the kids,” he said on GTV Monday, February 21.
Asked how many days she has been absent from Parliament, he answered: “More than 15 days and the law says 15 days.”
Asked again whether Ghanaians should expect her Seat to be declared vacant, he said: “Why not? She should go and contest on TikTok.”
Some NPP members, including Ken Agyanpong and Michael Okyere Baafi of New Juabeng South constituency in the Eastern Region, believe she is sabotaging the government, especially the passage of the E-levy.
Mr Baafi, who doubles as Deputy Trade Minister, said she is making the work of the government in Parliament difficult.
“All the problems government is facing are attributable to Adwoa Safo. Clearly, her intention and posture show that she wants to sabotage NPP,” he said on Kumasi-based Hello FM.
But replying to Buaben Asamoa, Kennedy Agyapong, said he has failed as a lawyer.
He [Yaw Buaben Asamoa] is a waste to the party. I have told you everything that is going on in the party, what role has he played? The problems we’re facing in the NPP with communication is because of Yaw Buaben Asamoa. His arrogance, he lost because of his arrogance at Adenta and now he is coming out with a tweet.
“All the current executives including Yaw Buaben Asamoa, if they don’t vote them out I will form a political party,” he told Asaase Radio on Tuesday, February 22.
