It is about three weeks now, since the content of the Last Will and Testaments of the late Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, popularly known as Sir John became public.
The Will, which has surprised many Ghanaians and are talking, seems not to bother the national chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Freddie Blay.
In response to the horrendous Will, Freddie Blay, simply parried it off, calling those criticizing it as uninformed.
This is what Freddie Blay had to say about the case in spite of the magnitude of the acquisition and the possible breach of trust, as well as a case of conflict of interest committed by the man who was appointed to protect the country’s fast depleting forest and forest reserves
According to the former Member of Parliament (MP) for Ellembelle, “If you want to talk about the NDC … there are people who have never worked in their life who joined the party, and before you realize they have various mansions, flats and several of them, they have never worked in their life.
“Fortunately, [Sir John’s issue] has come out, it is part of our drive to fight corruption, if indeed he acquired them illegally, why not let the axe fall. But on the other hand, don’t make it look like this is a mantra of NPP corruption,” he told journalists in the Western Region over the weekend.
In our considered opinion much as the case is under investigation, comments such as was made by Freddie Blay, further erode public confidence in the politician.
In the spirit of accountability, Freddie Blay, should name those NDC members who were not working and yet amassed so much when the party was in office, so we can call them out to be investigate by relevant state agencies.
This loose talk by no less a person than a national chairman of the governing party, should not be countenanced.
It is our view that so much is at stake in this one case, because it exposes how public officers abuse their office for personal gain.
