The status of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as a mass movement dedicated to righting the wrongs of the Akufo-Addo led administration is no longer in doubt. At least that is one thing that the current anger directed at the president proves.
After almost six years in office, Ghanaians are beginning to register their protest at the harsh economic reality, with no end sight, in very strong terms.
As the NDC prepares to elect its party officers to steer the party to victory come election 2024, some booby traps must not be overlooked.
The opposition was in the news for all the wrong reasons last week, this stemmed from the announcement by the General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, popularly known as general Mosquito, to contest the incumbent chairman, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, for his position.
We commend the maturity shown by Chairman Ofosu Ampofo, who decided not to reply General Mosquito, thereby saving the party from implosion.
As a paper, we are appalled that the General Secretary, decided to fiddle like Nero while Rome burns. A look at the country today under the stewardship of Nana Akufo-Addo and Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, show a near failing state whose socio-political systems and cultures are collapsing hard and fast.
Change must come, for the nation cannot afford to maintain the status quo after 2024.This is a clarion call for all Ghanaians, especially members of the NDC, who are vying to lead the party at the various levels from the Constituency, Regional and national.
Ghanaians feel unsatisfied with the state of their country and are ready to identify with the NDC, as an alternative platform. The NDC, must not disappoint them by tearing itself down.
Indeed, we have no doubt that what is happening in the NDC, has everything to do with who controls the party machineries with 2024 general elections in mind.
However, with the myriads of challenges facing the country ranging from the depreciation Cedi, high cost of living, Inflation, galamsey, etc, the last distractions the NDC, needs are infighting and power play.
This is the time to work with a single mind and avoid unnecessary distractions. We, therefore, call on the political leaders to let politicking take the back seat as conscious efforts are made to change the narrative of governance in the country. That line of thinking should be uppermost in the minds of our political leaders.
