Suspend campaigns and stay in Parliament until March 31 – NDC orders its MPs

The Functional Executive Committee (FEC) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) orders its sitting Members of Parliament to suspend campaign activities in their constituencies.

This directive is to be adhered to with immediate effect.

In a press release issued on Wednesday, March 8, the party also barred its MPs from travelling.

It has also asked those who have already travelled to other return immediately.

“No NDC MP shall undertake any travel that will affect his or her attendance in Parliament. Any MP who has travelled is hereby recalled immediately.”

The release also asked constituency executives to strictly adhere the directive.

“All regional and constituency executives and aspirants are directed to ensure strict compliance with the directives herein.”

Mr Kwetey also warned parliamentary aspirants  to “in their own interest, to strictly adhere to these directives as breach of same shall attract severe sanctions.”

This directive is in a bid to get the numbers required to fight against the Electoral Commission’s proposed Constitutional Instrument (CI) for election 2024.

The party, and its MPs are against the decision by the EC to make the Ghana card the sole identity document to register to vote in the next general elections.
