A disclaimer is appropriate at this time, I am not for any reason saying construction of a toilet in a community is not important, especially one where Dr Bernard Okoe Boye comes from, my concern, however, is the commissioning.
Okoe Boye, since he lost his second attempt to represent the people of Ledzokuku Constituency, has not been pretentious about his intention to go back to Parliament. He is desperate to go back to the August House to retrieve some things he forgot there.
After losing the 2020 parliamentary election, he is now more visible, asserting himself on the constituents than he did while serving them. He was variously described by the constituents, especially members of his party; the New Patriotic Party (NPP), by this I mean the executives included of being arrogant, he sees himself as more important than them and he is above their level, as we say in Ghana.
Okoe Boye, sees every opening as an opportunity to remind the people of Teshie, how good and thoughtful he is. He bats no eyelid in majoring in the minor, just to be seen as a good person, in fact, it is so consuming.
So little by little, the haze on the political landscape is clearing and thawing and his selfish interest is becoming apparent by the day.
Knowing his target audience and desperately seeking to warm himself on them, he stops at nothing to ensure that, his dream of regaining the seat comes to pass.
He is giving a life to his fading ambition, his latest attempt at reminding the people that, he is there for them, was the commissioning of 20 seater toilet facility.
In a Twitter post, Dr Okoe Boye shared a video of the commissioning, “This morning, I had the privilege of commissioning a 20-seater toilet located behind the Lekma Hospital. I financed the project with my MPs share of the Common Fund.
“What drives me remains the mission to make the world a better place.”
He added that the hope is to be able to be proud of the things he did for his neighbor.
“When I stand before the Lord one day, I want to be able to say that I did my best for my neighbor at all times with all that I had access to; this is what Leadership is about,” he said.
In the 21st century, building of a toilet should not warrant the celebration that unfortunately we are witnessing among politicians. We take delight in celebrating mediocrity, when we should engage ourselves with things that will move the nation forward.
I had huge respect for Okoe Boye, but to think that he can also stoop so low to play to the gallery, baffles me.
Okoe Boye’s continues embarrassment of the good people Ledzokuku, is akin to the proverbial macabre dance of the absurd, Kings dancing naked in the arena in the self-delusion that they are entertaining the audience.
It is nauseating. It makes one puke. It makes one sick. It annoys. It irritates. But it must be tolerated. And it is even necessary.
Let those close to Okoe Boye and ask him in all sincerity that, if he thinks constructing a toilet in this digital age and age of advancement is the best legacy he wishes to bequeath to his people.
Given his background as a medical doctor, many were optimistic that he was going to perform better and chart a new paradigm but that was not to be, as he has perfected mediocrity and taken it a notch higher.
The people of Teshie, when they voted for him to represent them in 2016, they were optimistic that, he will at least perform better than his predecessors.
Fast forward to today and you will agree with me that, the quality of leadership he provided was perhaps the worst in the history of that Constituency.
Not too long ago, he took to his facebook wall to celebrate yet another mediocrity, when he constructed a bridge. He commissioned it and touting it as an achievement. Okoe Boye revels drawing attention to himself. He always wants to bask in his glory and sometimes he takes it too far.
Toilet is not a luxury, but a necessity; every household should have a decent toilet, only if laws are allowed to work in this country.
The reality is that Okoe Boye is a very damaged and unsellable ware, yet he wants to stage a comeback. His modus operandi is not tidy and certainly not appealing.
Okoe Boye, with his antics is looking like a desperado that sees political office as a compulsive addiction. His present trajectory shows a power monger that is ruled by innate desire for office and nothing more and will stop at nothing to get back to the August House.
Even with the rude awakening he got at the 2020 parliamentary election, one would have thought, he has learnt his lesson and will seek to do things different, but his disdain towards his people, who he feels do not deserve anything better is very evident with his actions.
He had tried in so many unconvincing ways to still remain relevant and launch a comeback, but none sticks with the constituents who are now awake to his deception.
The ship has long sailed and Okoe Boye must give up his parliamentary ambition. It is not a do or die affair, he can channel his energies into doing something meaningful to the people of Ledzokuku.
In all, Okoe Boye is a bad product and the annoying inconsistency trailing his inordinate desire to go back to parliament, adds to the heavy baggage he drags along with his vaunting ambition.
