First Vice-Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Central Region, Horace Ekow Ewusi, has disclosed that his party is not performing well in the swing region; the decider of every presidential election since 1992, hence needs new faces to steer its affairs.
“As I speak, in my opinion, the direction that Central Regional party executives are going is not right and proper. As a result of that we need new faces with proper directions” he observed.
While, advocating for the new faces to lead the NPP in Region, he announced that he will not be seeking re-election when the party opens for nominations at the regional level.
“I will not contest again when the party opens nominations for the Regional contest”, he revealed on Cape Coast-based Kingdom FM, and lamented that the party is not moving in the right direction in the region.
Ekow Ewusi, one of the six persons arrested by the police in 2020 over missing excavators and other equipment seized by operatives of Operation Vanguard has now been pardoned by the party after his suspension.
He was later suspended on July 31, 2019, by the NPP Regional Executive Committee for allegedly grossly misconducting himself in the infamous missing excavators’ issue.
It followed an inquiry into the allegations levelled against him by one Edward Okraku Adum and as a result, the Regional Disciplinary Committee chaired by Prof. I.K Sam-Amoah, recommended to the Regional Executive Committee to suspend Ekow Ewusi from his position indefinitely.
A police statement at the time said Suspect Ekow Ewusi who was contracted to take custody of some seized equipment, was arrested on Monday, February 2, 2020, at Abelemkpe in Accra together with five (5) other accomplices namely: Frederick Ewusi, Joel Asamoah, Adnan Haruna, Frank Gyan and John Arhin and have been cautioned on the offence of Stealing. Adnan Haruna, Frank Gyan and John Arhin have been cautioned on the offence of abetment of stealing.
But a few weeks ago, however, a letter from the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party dated April 11, 2022, and signed by the General Secretary, John Boadu, announced the lifting of the suspension.
The letter read in part “I write to inform you that at a meeting by the National Executive Committee of the party held on April 12, 2022, the Committee, in accordance with the party’s Dispute and Grievances Procedure, received a report of the National Disciplinary Committee on your petition regarding the indefinite suspension you were given by the Central Regional Executive Committee.
“After extensive deliberation on the Report of the Regional Disciplinary Committee, the National Executive Committee had unanimously decided in line with the Disciplinary Committee recommendations to lift your indefinite suspension and convert it into definite suspension.
“It is the decision of the National Executive Committee that the indefinite suspension shall be coterminous with the tenure of office of the current Regional Executives. Accordingly, the lifting of the suspension in its entirety shall be effective on the day the Central Regional holds its 2022 Annual Delegates Conference.
Speaking on other matters on the Cape Coast-based Kingdom FM, Ekow Ewusi has stated that the kind of politics in this country is not helping security agencies, such as the police service to discharge their duties efficiently, adding that there must be a distinction between crime and politics.
“When one commits any form of crime because of their political affiliation to a particular political party, the case eventually dies out. We should let the laws of this country deal with culprits irrespective of their political colours” he advocated.
Mr Ekow Ewusi who is popularly known in politics as Chairman Ewusi says he will even die and send the Chairman brand name into his grave and charged his family to write Chairman Ewusi on his grave ledger, and promised to resource and work vigorously for his party to snatch the Cape Coast North and South constituency parliamentary seats from the NDC.
The NPP executive revealed that his suspension was no longer a bother to him, adding that the lord’s prayer portion of “Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us”, melted his heart.
He underscored the need for delegates to vote against any aspirant who will insult his or her contender but reiterated the forthcoming Regional Delegates Conference in the Central Regional, must ensure that NPP Regional executives are booted out or reshuffled, and be replaced with new faces with new ideas to rebuild the party in the region.
” We are going for these elections united and come out with love so whoever loses should take it that it’s not the end of their political career. We should go into these elections with the mindset of unity, hence defeated aspirants must join winner candidates to jubilate after the elections” Mr Ewusi appealed.
