The National Petroleum Authority (NPA), has demonstrated its commitment to social responsibility, as its Acting Chief Executive, Mr Godwin Kudzo Tameklo Esq., led a delegation to the Volta Region, to donate relief items to victims of recent tidal waves in the Ketu South Municipality.

The tidal waves, which wreaked havoc in communities, such as Agavedzi, Salokope and Amutinu, experienced the destruction of properties and loss of life with some survivors having to sleep out in the open for some nights at the mercy of the weather.

Fishermen and traders, who form the backbone of the local economy, have been severely affected, struggling to rebuild their lives.

In response to the devastation, the NPA, provided essential relief items, including student mattresses, and two sleeper Camp Tents, to ease the burden on affected families.

Mr Tameklo, presenting the items expressed the hope that the items would bring some relief to the victims and inspire other organizations to lend their support.

The donation was received by the Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, on behalf of the victims.

The Minister, lauded the NPA for its swift intervention, emphasizing the need for more institutions to assist the affected communities.

“The impact of these tidal waves has been devastating. Many people have been displaced, and children have been forced out of school. The NPA’s support is more than just relief, it is a message of hope. I urge other corporate bodies and government agencies to step forward and help,” he said.

As part of his working visit to the Volta Region, Mr Tameklo and his team, called on the Agbogbomefia of the Asogli traditional Area Togbe Afede XIV, as well as other key stakeholders, including the Volta Regional Security Council, to seek their support in tackling petroleum-related challenges in the region and strengthen collaboration and build stronger relationship.

Additionally, he inspected an underground LPG refilling plant in Hohoe, the first of its kind in the country, where he urged operators to strictly adhere to safety regulations to protect lives and investments.
