The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has requested a live broadcast of their presentation, regarding observations on the 2024 provisional voters register in a letter to the Electoral Commission (EC).
The NDC stated, “In connection with the upcoming meeting with your team (EC) slated for Friday, 6th September 2024, we request a live broadcast of our presentation of observations found in the Provisional Voters Register (PVR) to your team. This, we believe, will give true meaning to transparency as reflected in your motto.”
In response to the NDC demands, the Electoral Commission, declared in a letter to the NDC that while they are prepared to hear the discrepancies identified by the NDC, they would not accept the proposal for a live broadcast of the meeting.
The Commission, stated that the purpose of the Voters Exhibition Exercise, is to correct discrepancies in the register, which may, include missing names, misplaced voters, and duplicate images, among others.
The Commission affirmed its commitment to free, fair, transparent, peaceful, and credible elections and confirmed their readiness to meet with the NDC team at the agreed time.
The Commission noted that identifying discrepancies is not a new phenomenon and welcomed the NDC’s move, hoping it will contribute to ensuring a credible register ahead of the 2024 General Election.
They emphasized that, while the identification of discrepancies is beneficial, broadcasting the meeting live is not necessary for this purpose.
