Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has responded to allegations surrounding the source of wealth with claims of a fleet of cars and houses in expensive communities in Accra.
He had earlier this week, been challenged by the re-elected NDC’s National Youth Organizer, George Opare Addo, alias Pablo, to disclose how he got his mansion at Accra’s Airport Hill, an upscale part of town, as well as his Land Cruiser.
Sammy Gyamfi in responding to the allegations on December 14, 2022 on Accra-based Onua FM/TV, said he indeed owns a Land Cruiser, but that it was only one not six of them as alleged.
“They said I have six Land Cruisers, but I have only one and even that one someone gave it to me out of the love he has for Mahama,” he told host of the Onua Maakye show, Captain Smart.
With respect to his ownership of a house at Airport Hills, he responded: “I’m not the owner of those houses trending on social media. But in fact, the houses I am going to build will be five times better than those.”
Mr Opare Addo and Sammy Gyamfi, have exchanged words over an alleged rags to riches story which has in recent times gained currency within the opposition party, but only at the level of whispers and murmuring.
The story has been that the 33-year old Sammy Gyamfi, who is not known to be in any gainful employment aside politics, has put a luxurious mansion on a huge plot of land at Airport Hills, an affluent community in Accra running into several hundreds of thousands of United States Dollars.
Mr Gyamfi, is said to have built the house in record time to move in with his soon-to-be-wedded girlfriend. He has been seen several times sneaking into the house in the middle of the night. The house is fully furnished and is ready to be occupied by him.
Other allegations being made against the NDC’s National Communication Officer is that prior to building the Airport Hills mansion, he had bought a house he had rented at the Regimanuel Gray Estate- Golden Gate, off the Spintex Road in Accra.
Additional allegations against Mr Gyamfi after the 2020 election had reported a theft case involving a huge amount of cash to the Police over which his caretaker was arrested, but later set free without charges or prosecution. They claim that Mr Gyamfi, was advised by the police not to press on for a criminal trial, because of the political backlash he and the party might suffer.
But it appears, the mansion is the only issue making the headlines for now because the National Youth Organizer, has dared to bring it to the fore after an acrimonious National Youth executive contest over the weekend at Cape Coast in the Central Region.
According to George Opare Addo who won reelection with a slim margin against Yaw Brogya Genfi, he considered the contest as him against “that Airport Hills small boy” Sammy Gyamfi and not Brogya, Opare Addo, said on Live Radio with Mugabe Maase.
Mr Opare Addo later dared Sammy Gyamfi on air to explain how he owned the plush property.
“As for this election, it was that Airport Hills small boy I contested not Brogya, I said today I will mention names… I contested Sammy Gyamfi and I won. He is a small boy. There is nothing he can match me on, I have lived life well. He is a small boy.” Pablo said.
Sammy Gyamfi in response, sent a notice that he will soon respond to some lies which have been peddled against him by the re-elected National Youth Organizer.
Sammy who was one of the party folks who relentlessly rallied behind Brogya Genfi who was Opare Addo’s contender, said he committed no crime by doing so prior to the elections.
Sammy Gyamfi openly campaigned for his friend Yaw Brogya Genfi to be elected National Youth Organizer but lost by 25 votes at the just ended Women and Youth elections of the party. Opare Addo was not happy with Sammy Gyamfi and said Sammy Gyamfi has become an obstacle he has to deal with.
“Yes, Sammy Gyamfi has now become an obstacle and in my way and this my second term I will not joke! I will cut away anybody who stands in my way as an obstacle. It is the only action that we will see. Action action action….” Opare Addo said.
Popularly known as Pablo, the re-elected NDC youth leader, asked Sammy Gyamfi to explain how he built a house at Airport Hills and what work he does.
“Mugabe, ask Sammy Gyamfi how he built a house at Airport Hills, what work does he do?” He asked.
Opare Addo revealed previous reconciliation attempts he made with Sammy Gyamfi that failed.
“I called him twice for us to meet at my Dzorwulu office, ask him. He was at peace FM. I called him to come for us to sit and talk so that we can work together. So what is my crime?” Opare Addo revealed.
“I told him (Sammy Gyamfi) that the situation where he passes the other way when I pass one way will not help the party and I want is to work together to bring NDC to power, ask him if I am lying” Opare Addo revealed.
Mr Opare Addo further charged saying at a time he was serving as Municipal Chief Executive for Akwapem North, Sammy Gyamfi was writing his West African Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
“Sammy Gyamfi he is flying too high. He should come down, he is a small boy. He has not lived life more than me” George Opare Addo slammed his fellow NDC executive.
But in a Twitter post, Sammy Gyamfi called out George Opare Addo adding that he will respond to his claims when the time is right.
“Georgeoaddo I committed no crime in supporting @BrogyaGenfi over you in the just-ended NO elections. If this is the route you want to take, then bring it on. At the right time, you will get a befitting response to all the lies and gibberish you have been spewing since yesterday,” he tweeted.
During the interview Opare-Addo, expressed disappointment over Sammy Gyamfi‘s endorsement of his contender over him, adding that all efforts to reconcile with Sammy Gyamfi prior to the elections appear to have proven futile.
Pablo who also granted an interview on Adom FM Dwaso Nsem Breakfast Show yesterday took a swipe at Sammy Gyamfi, describing him as an influence Peddler.
According to him Sammy Gyamfi created impression as if he had the support of the former President and former Chief of Staff to endorse his Contender in the just ended NDC Youth and Women Conference Mr Brogya Genfi, an impression Opare Addo, said never existed.
“Sammy Gyamfi is not closer to Mahama. He is one of the influence peddlers I’m referring at.
He used the name of Mahama and Julius Derbrah against me”, the NDC Youth Organizer fumed.
He revealed that his enemies used his resourceful ability against him and claimed he was being financed by the NPP yet “I financed the party in 2012, 2016 and 2020”.
“They knew my strength was resources and I made sure the base is resourced. That won me the elections”, he emphasized.
He later said he’s forgiven him but admonished him to be politically matured going forward.
Sammy Gyamfi, on the Onua Maakye show, cautioned Pablo to stay off the unfounded allegations he was peddling. He also insisted that there was nothing wrong with backing an opponent of his because he had done the same against him in 2018.
“John Dumelo campaigned for Opare Addo. John is my very good friend and I’m sure he is cool with Brogya Genfi. Have you heard Brogya Genfi attack him after the elections?
“Maturity is not for sale. James Agyenim-Boateng campaigned for Opare Addo, but he is my good friend. Would Brogya Genfi or Sammy Gyamfi go on national radio to insult Agyenim-Boateng?
“In 2018 when I stood for National Communications Officer, Opare Addo didn’t support me. He met all the youth organizers at Erata Hotel and asked them to vote for my opponent which was fair. He has the right to do that. Did you hear me attack him after the elections? Even now I’m going unopposed.
“I’m now close to the person who contested me in 2018. If I didn’t respect him, do you think, we would have had this kind of relationship? I’ve promised not to descend into the gutters because I don’t belong in the gutters,” he said.
Meanwhile, former President John Dramani Mahama, has intervened in the ongoing rift between Sammy Gyamfi and George Opare Addo, with the two agreeing to smoke the peace pipe following a meeting with the former president.
In a Facebook post, Mr Mahama, indicated that they have agreed to settle their grievances and cautioned that such acts will only distract the attention of Ghanaians from the hardships of the economy.
“I’ve had meetings with our Youth Organizer and Communications Officer and agreed with them that the current exchanges must stop. It brings our great party no benefit and only serves as a distraction from the hardship caused by the reckless management of our economy.
Let’s keep our eyes on the prize for the ‘Ghana we want”, Mr Mahama wrote after meeting the two individuals.
