Former President John Dramani Mahama, has officially inaugurated the Lordina Foundation Maternity and Children’s Ward at the Nkoranza Health Centre.
The facility, spearheaded by the Lordina Foundation, was celebrated as a major milestone in improving maternal and child healthcare in the region.
At the event, Mahama praised his wife, Lordina, for her unwavering commitment to the welfare of women and children.
The new 2,000-square-metre ward is equipped with 33 beds, 10 baby cots, a neonatal intensive care unit, a theatre, and a range of advanced medical equipment.
It is expected to transform healthcare delivery in Nkoranza, enabling the centre to perform basic surgeries and provide essential care for neonates and children.
The Nkoranza Health Centre, established in 1954, had seen no major infrastructural upgrades until this project.
With a growing demand for healthcare services, the facility now has the capacity to meet increasing needs, providing comprehensive maternal and neonatal care from antenatal to postnatal stages.
Mahama, also used the occasion to address the broader healthcare challenges facing Ghana, emphasizing the need for social interventions.
He highlighted the NDC’s plan to introduce Free Primary Healthcare and expand preventive health services in his future administration, pledging to alleviate the economic difficulties faced by Ghanaians.
The Lordina Foundation’s efforts were lauded for their impact across underserved communities, and Mahama expressed hope that the new ward would catalyse further development at the Nkoranza Health Centre, potentially transforming it into a fully modern hospital.
“Together, we shall build the Ghana we want – a Ghana of hope and shared prosperity for all of us,” Mahama concluded.
