The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has urged the Ghana Telecom University College (GTUC) to prioritize Artificial Intelligence (AI) and coding in its academic programs as part of efforts to enhance ICT education in Ghana.
Speaking at the inauguration of GTUC’s Governing Council, Mr. Iddrisu called for the integration of AI and coding into the university’s core curriculum. He also advocated for the supervised use of mobile phones to support students who demonstrate a keen interest in digital technology.
Highlighting GTUC’s strategic role in shaping Ghana’s ICT landscape, the Minister emphasized the importance of upgrading infrastructure to support the university’s mission and meet growing technological demands.
Mr. Iddrisu, who played a pivotal role in the establishment of GTUC following Vodafone’s acquisition of Ghana Telecom, expressed satisfaction with the institution’s growth and achievements over the years.
The newly appointed Vice Chancellor, Prof. Divine Gbeteko, outlined his vision to expand GTUC’s reach and build partnerships with major tech firms, including Samsung, to create internship opportunities for students and enhance practical training.
In addition to the GTUC event, Mr. Iddrisu, who also serves as the Member of Parliament for Tamale South, officiated the inauguration of Governing Councils for the Chartered Institute of Human Resource Management and the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA)
