Five people are currently in a critical condition at the emergency unit of the Upper East Regional hospital over a shooting incident in Walewale.
The attacks which took place at two separate locations within the Walewale area, involved two vehicles from the Pusiga area that were traveling to Kumasi.
These attacks have added to the number of attacks meted at Kusasi vehicles. These unfortunate attacks are borne out of the Bawku conflict.
Walewale been a dominant Mamprusi community, it is said that the Mamprusis ambush the Kusasis from that area to revenge.
The Walewale stretch of the Bolga/Tamale highway, is becoming the center of attacks by gun men. Since 2020, about three cars have been burnt, five people killed and many other people got injured.
On Wednesday December 20, 2023 two cars travelling from Pusiga to Kumasi, were attacked. The two cars, include a cargo track with registration number AS 9989 N and another bus. About seven people got injured and five are in critical condition.
Spokesperson for the Kusaug Youth Movement, have accused the Mamprusis of taking the conflict out of Bawku to those areas. He said this attack is a setback from the efforts the Vice –President, Dr Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, made when he visited Bawku.
Relatives of the victims, who spoke to the media, indicated that, they are disappointed in the government for failing to look into the matter.
Some relatives have, therefore called on the Vice-President to intensify the process to bringing lasting peace to the area.
