Customs Officers, a paramilitary organisation which belongs to the Operational Division of the Ghana Revenue Authourity (GRA) and forms part of the Country’s National Security architecture, for the first time in the history of the service, are on a sit-down strike.
The action by the Officers is to protest over delays in their promotions, salary increments and government’s refusal to put them on Cap 30 pension scheme.
The CAP 30 Pension Scheme is non-contributory and intended to be a reward from the Colonial Government to Civil Servants, after a minimum of ten years unblemished and loyal service, at the voluntary retirement age of forty five (45) years or on the attainment of the compulsory retirement age of fifty (50).
The country’s point of entry, the Kotoka International Airport (KIA), as well as the Cargo Terminal also at KIA, have been grounded to a halt ,because Officers, have refused to attend to customers.
The officers blame the Ministry of Finance headed by Ken Ofori-Atta for the refusal to grant their request, which has been pending for over a year now.
They declared the sit-down strike today, July 14, 2022.
