The New Patriotic Party (NPP) will today, Monday, July 3, commence the vetting of individuals seeking to lead the party in the 2024 general elections as a presidential candidate.
The aspirants set to undergo scrutiny, include Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten, the former Minister of Trade; businessman Kwadwo Poku, and Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the current vice president.
Tomorrow, July 4, the vetting will continue with other candidates, including Boakye Kyeremateng Agyarko, former Energy Minister; Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, a former NPP General Secretary, and Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central.
A statement issued by the Secretary to the National Presidential Vetting Committee, Evans Nimako, indicated that the remaining candidates Dr Kpfo Konadu Apraku, Dr Owusu Afrieyie Akoto, Joe Ghartey and Francis Addai-Nimo, would be vetted on July 5 and 6 respectively.
The statement expected all presidential hopefuls to take note of the schedule and attend the vetting process as required by the Committee.
On Friday, the NPP’s the National Steering Committee, per Article 10(3) (F) (ii) of the Party’s Constitution and on behalf of the National Council, inaugurated a vetting committee for presidential primary election.
Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye, was made Chairman of the Vetting Committee for the Party’s Presidential Primary Election.
Justin Kodua Frimpong, the General Secretary on Friday, June 30, 2023, inaugurated the Vetting Committee at the Party’s Headquarters. This is sequel to the National Council’s emergency meeting held on Tuesday, May 30, 2023.
The NPP’s scribe’s reiterated the need to uphold the party’s constitution and urged the Committee members to ensure a free, fair and transparent vetting process.
Prof. Mike Aaron Oquaye is the Chairman, Kwasi Amoako Atta, Stephen Abankwa Sekyere, Osei Bonsu Amoah, Lord Oblitey Commey, Lawyer Frank Davies, Rita Talata Asobayire, Hackman Owusu-Agyeman and Adelaide Ahwireng.
Osei Bonsu Amoah, who is the Member of Parliament for Akuapem South Constituency and a member of the Vetting Committee, has been appointed the Spokesperson for the Committee.
Evans Nimako, Director for Research and Elections of the NPP, has also been appointed as Secretary for the committee.
