The National Democratic Congress is on the cusp of another historic moment as the party heads to the polls tomorrow Saturday, May 13, to elect its presidential and parliamentary candidates for the 2024 general elections.

The outcome of tomorrow’s election, will determine not only the direction of the NDC, but the country, as millions of disillusioned Ghanaians are calling on the party to come and rescue them from the clueless  leadership of the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo New Patriotic Party led administration.

As a newspaper, we align with Ghanaians who are reeling under the harsh economic reality, brought about the current administration and that 2024 election is a rescue mission for the NDC.

Ghana is a country of immense potential, yet it has faced numerous challenges in the past six years that have impeded its progress.

A total of 872 persons picked nomination forms to contest in the parliamentary primary of the party as of the close of the exercise in 249 constituencies out of the 276 across the country.

The acting NDC National Director of Elections, Daniel Amartey Mensah, who made this known to the Daily Graphic said, “What we have seen on our website is extremely encouraging.”

“They have even oversubscribed because the NDC is the most attractive brand in the politics of Ghana today,” he stated.

For the presidential election, although three people have filed to contest, it is a going to be a landslide victory for former president John Dramani Mahama.

Various aspirants have a responsibility to conduct themselves in a manner that promotes party unity. They must ensure that their supporters do not engage in any form of violence or thuggery that has the tendency to mar the whole process.

Candidates should also be ready to accept the outcome of the election and channel any grievances through the party’s laid down processes.

In the considered opinion of this newspaper, the outcome of tomorrow’s election will have far-reaching implications not just for the NDC, but for the country as a whole and the reasons are not far-fetched.

Corruption, poverty, illegal mining popularly known as galamsey, mounting debt and a lack of infrastructure, are some of the challenges that the country faces today.

These challenges can only be addressed through good and purposeful leadership, and the first step towards the achievement of all that, is the election of a leader, who has demonstrated when he had the opportunity that, he can do it.

In this regard, we entreat all delegates to vote for John Dramani Mahama, to lead the party in the 2024 election and save Ghanaians from the quagmire they find themselves in.

We vote for John Mahama. John Mahama it is!
