The Director of Elections for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah, has described the Akufo-Addo led administration as “khakistocracy”, good at creating avenues for corruption for his clique of family and friends, who have no values and are extremely corrupt.
Kakistocracy or Khakistocracy is a government run by the worst, least qualified, or most unscrupulous citizens. It is often a military rule of a country in collusion with the elite and business classes.
According to him, there is too much corruption under the Akufo-Addo administration, noting that the situation has become nothing but worse.
He insisted that Akufo-Addo and his family members, are only doing things to suit their parochial interest, describing the situation as disgraceful.
Mr Afriyie-Ankrah, made the assertion on GhOne TV’s Expressive Show over the weekend when he was asked for his views on Akufo-Addo’s administration.
According to him, President Akufo-Addo, has formed family and friends government without considering the plight of Ghanaians and has woefully failed to deal ruthlessly with corrupt officials in his administration, despite their incompetence and cluelessness on the job.
Mr Afriyie-Ankrah, who is vying for the NDC General Secretary slot, stated that his priority to be the opposition party’s scribe, is to engage disgruntled members for unity and victory.
When asked whether he would bring back Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings into the NDC when he gets the nod, Mr Ankrah, said approaching individual members to come back to the party is not appropriate saying disgruntled members must also be willing to come back to the party.
However, he promised to engage all party members who feel they have been cut off when he gets the nod as General Secretary, with the view of bringing them back into the party’s fold. He wants to make them part of a committed system and membership base working towards an NDC victory in 2024.
He explained that his good human relationship with everybody in the party irrespective of their status puts him at a strategic position to fulfill that mission.
“I will unite the ranks and file of the party to bring unity among party members irrespective of their status. My human relations puts me in a strategic position because I engage and have a solid relationship with everybody in the party”, he stated.
The ex-Sports Minister, said there is no deliberate attempt to silence anyone in the NDC. To him, the party is at this crucial stage and needs everybody onboard, especially those members who feel neglected in the past.
“If you are harbouring bitterness in your heart for no reason, you will die but people who genuinely feel they’ve been neglected, there is a way to bring them back and bring the spirit of the party back. That is what wins elections and it is going to be a major thing and I’m well positioned to do that”, he stressed.
He said the NDC chances are “very good” and “super good” because of the gross incompetence of the NPP and Nana Addo’s government, extreme corruption and the high cost of living in the country gives the NDC chance to win the general election, adding that the economy is in a mess because the government has overspent, outspent and misspent and collapsed the economy.
In the estimation of Mr Afriyie-Ankrah, based on the situation going on in the country, the NPP will even struggle to get 40 to 45 percent in the 2024 general election. He alleged that there is a lot of manipulation ongoing including money sharing.
He alleged how in some constituencies in the northern region during the 2020 election, a bullion van was seen sharing money with people.
The Director of Elections, also cautioned that the 2024 general election is not a done deal for the NDC, but every member must work hard to wrestle power from the NPP, adding that calling the election a done deal is very dangerous because in an election you have not won until the elections results are declared.
He cautioned against complacency, adding “Eyes must be on the ball right from the start till the end”.
