A thick-roaring aggressive mob in the Ashanti region’s town of Kenyase-Brofoyedru, attacked and molested two male friends accused of being Homosexuals.
The September 14, 2022, attack saw a club-wielding mob in what appeared like a communal attack, raided the residence of the victims -Ahmed Abubakar Sidiq, 33 and Mohammed Abdullai 37, also nicknamed “Yakub” in an unwelcoming mood and launched a life-threatening attack on them.
Their neighbors accused them of practicing Homosexuality, an act considered as highly abominable in Ghana.
The victims, who sustained varied degrees of injuries, were said to have been saved by some elderly persons of the neighborhood. The attackers left, but left a very frightening warning signals to return.
The accused Homosexuals, this paper gathered fled the hostile community from the anger of their attackers for Tema, a town in Ghana’s capital – Accra.
At Tema, their stay was short-lived following another attack which coincided with Ghana’s Independence day celebration, March 6, 2023.
In this very attack, a mob in the country’s capital town trailed Mohammed Abdullai and another middle-aged man named Abdul Latif, to a local guest house where they were nearly killed.
A source who sought anonymity disclosed to this Paper that other helpless users of the guest house were seen running helter-skelter during what he described as a scary attack.
The source explained that it took the intervention of a armed stationed security officer of the guest house who fired three warning shots to disperse the attackers.
This outlet understand that one of the victims, Ahmed Abubakar Sadiq had been domiciled in Italy and only retuned to Ghana few years ago. Mohammed Abdullai, who is widely known within his peers as “Yakub” isa family man with a wife and children. Our source narrated that the attackers have vowed to kill the duo if seen.
The source further disclosed to this Paper that the where about of the victims remain unknown to their families.
“The attacks were very frightening and I am very sure that is why the victims don’t want their location known”. He noted.
Ghana remains, a hostile nation for Homosexuals. All religious sects as well as many other Civil Society Organizations are up in arms against the practice of Homosexuality. An anti- Homosexuality bill is currently before Ghana’s parliament awaiting its passage.
