Ghanaians are experiencing the worst time of the lives, as cost of living and doing business keep rising to levels they have not witnessed before.
The person they voted for and has their mandate to bring some relief to them is not perturbed, as he is removed from the hardship they are going through.
Our local authorities, who we don’t elect, but have over the years provided leadership, are also failing in their duty, because most often than not, they get goodies from the government of the day.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, since 2017, has embarked on several nationwide tours, every region he visits, he meets with the Chiefs and Elders of the regions.
Just last week, he was in the Northern region on a two-day tour, where he interacted with Chiefs, elders and opinion leaders.
Curiously as a newspaper, we wonder the kind of conversation our Chiefs have with the president. Since it is said that, politics is local, they hear and have first hand information on what pertains in the country, especially the hardship that has engulfed the nation.
Chiefs owe a duty of care to their people; they hear tales of corruption, wastages, mismanagements and misplaced priorities even in these critical times.
From the posture and utterances of the president, he is not ready to listen to anyone, but his ego. This is where our Chiefs, who are not beholden to him, should come in and tell him to chart a new path.
When the mistakes of the Akufo-Addo administration is going to be discussed in the future, questions will be asked of what the Chiefs and opinion leaders did.
It is pertinent to remind our Chiefs that, posterity will not forgive them, if they remain quiet in the face of the hardship brought about the Akufo-Addo government.
