Yesterday’s controversial approval of the 2022 Budget and Economic Policy statement is getting embroiled in a massive scandal with reports emerging that a lady was in the House to impersonate Sarah Adwoa Sarfo, who has been in the United States of America since May, 2021.
The daughter of Apostle Kwadwo Sarfo, who is the Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya Constituency, The Herald has picked up from multiple sources is undergoing some medical treatment in America and could not have made it to Ghana and participate in the approval of the unpopular 2022 budget statement.
However, a light skinned lady popped up in the House on Tuesday wearing a COVID-19 mask to conceal her true identity as she went about the illegal act.
The Herald information from the NPP side is that Adwoa’s condition is both psychological and almost psychiatric, hence could not make it to Ghana, leaving the party, colleagues MPs but more especially her family worried about her.
Other reports are that her newly married husband has abandoned her and this is getting her condition worse by the day.
Additional reports are that she had lied about her pregnancy to her husband; Hanny Mouhtiseb, who upon discovery of the deceit, opted out of the marriage leaving traumatized and depressed. They married in August 2020.
Adwoa Sarfo’s sad situation among amongst other reasons accounted for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) side’s decision to walk out of the chamber last week Friday, when it became clear that the ruling party could not make up the numbers required to face the opposition NDC to have the budget approved.
The was after Kenney Agyapong; MP for Assin North, Kwasi Amoako-Attah, Atiwa West constituency in the Eastern Region and Nana Dokua Asiamah Adjei MP for Akuapem North had been ordered to return home from US to approve the budget but Adwoa Sarfo, could not return as at friday 26th November 2021.
Adwoa Sarfo is a talkative and never known for sitting down quietly authoring no words and throwing inventives especially when proceedings gets heated or exciting but last Tuesday the lady who shares her skin colour, did the exact opposite.
Some have claimed that the imposter is a sister to Adwoa, whose name was given as Becky Sarfo.
She quickly picked her bag and stormed out of the House seconds after the budget got approved by the 138 NPP members including the Acting Speaker, Joseph Osei-Owusu, who is also the NPP MP for Bekwai in the Ashanti Region, and insisted he was playing a dual role on the day although the Standing Orders of the House frowns on that.
The imposter had sat directly behind the Majority Leader, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu and the Deputy Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin.
The lady also sat between Joe Ghartey, Essikado-Ketan Constituency and the Local Government Minister, Dan Botwe and also Okere constituency in the Eastern Region, they both did not engage in any form of conversation with her.
It was as though, no one should speak to her or risk revealing her features and true identity.
Mr. Botwe was only seen helping the impersonator to pick her bag and flee the chamber immediately after the Acting Speaker had admitted the votes and declared the budget passed.
The discovery of an imposter means that what happened in Parliament on Tuesday, was illegal because the NPP side of the house didn’t get the numbers required to overturn last Friday’s rejection of the unpopular budget.
Adwoa has not been to Parliament since leaving the country some months ago.
She has also not been to the Ministry of Agenda, Children and Social Protection.
In October, President Nana Akufo-Addo extended the leave of absence from office for the Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection.
In a statement dated Wednesday, October 6, 2021, signed and issued by the Director of Communications at the Presidency, Eugene Arhin, it was explained that Ms Safo’s leave was to have ended August 31, 2021.
“In her absence and until further notice, President Akufo-Addo has directed the Minister for Sanitation, Cecilia Abena Dapaah to act as caretaker Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection,” the statement added.
It’s unclear what level of punishment awaits people who impersonate MPs.
Social media has since been washed with different angles of the lady with many insisting she is not Sarah Adwoa Sarfo, who is a lawyer by profession.
But Adwoa’s presence at the Ministry of Agenda, Children and Social Protection, later today, could dispel reports of her impersonation.
