The leader of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), Philip Appiah Kubi, popularly known as Roman Fada, has commended President John Dramani Mahama, for scrapping the controversial betting tax and e-levy.
Presenting the 2025 Budget Statement and Economic Policy to Parliament on March 11, 2025, Finance Minister, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, said the taxes introduced by the previous administration, failed to generate the expected revenue and worsened the cost-of-living crisis.
“The removal of these taxes is part of our strategy to ease the cost of living and restore confidence in the economy,” the finance minister said.
Speaking to the Media, Roman Fada, said removing the controversial taxes was a step in the right direction, adding that it would ease Ghanaians’ financial burdens.
“President Mahama has done very well by removing these unnecessary taxes. It shows that he is a man who fulfills his promises,” the 2024 GFP flagbearer said.
In another development, the GFP leader has called on all Ghanaians to support John Mahama’s ascension to power.
According to him, many Ghanaians, have political preferences, and President Mahama must receive the needed support and encouragement to help the country surmount the current development challenges.
Roman Fada noted that some Ghanaians are losing hope in politicians due to past negative experiences since the country transitioned to democratic rule in 1992 and that the politicians must regain the confidence of Ghanaians.
“Ghanaian politicians must know that the people are losing confidence in us, and we must, therefore, do everything possible to get back on track. The only way to do that is to ensure that the current president performs very well to the satisfaction of Ghanaians, and this requires massive support from all of us,” Roman noted.
The GFP leader, also urged all stakeholders to highlight the current administration’s mistakes to promote good government.
“We of the GFP will also play our role very well; we will criticize where necessary and also praise the government when there is the need to,” Roman assured
