The Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu, has urged the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to become a party of opportunities for all.
“We need to deepen the values and ethos of democracy within the party, give the opportunity to every other person within the party to release their full potential within established rules and norms established by the party,” the Minority Leader.
Haruna Iddrisu, started his political career as a student politician from the University of Ghana , Legon, and became National Youth Organiser of the NDC, went to Parliament on the ticket of the party and became a Minister of Communications in the John Evans Atta Mills administration.
He also served in the John Mahama administration as Minister of Employment and Social Welfare.
Speaking at a lecture to mark the NDC’s 30th anniversary in Accra on Friday, June 10, 2022, Mr Iddrisu, noted that the party needed to put in place a new plan to ensure equity for its prospective legislators.
“We need to draw a roadmap and a new strategy as to how to determine members. He expects that this will get the best out of the party’s human resources.
“Opportunity for youth, opportunity for women and provide a protective space for our women who may not be able to engage in the rigorous black male campaign,” he said
Also at the event, the NDC National Chairman, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo highlighted the achievements the opposition party chalked in power.
Mr Ampofo said the previous NDC administration pursued various developmental projects including the construction of regional hospitals and public universities.
“We have brought unprecedented development to this country. We have performed better in office than our opponents, who have used propaganda to throw dust in the eyes of Ghanaians. The NDC built all the regional hospitals in our country.”
“All polytechnics were put in place by the NDC and we upgraded them into technical universities. Apart from existing three public universities, all other public tertiary institutions are credited to the NDC.”
He pointed out that the party is currently repositioning itself to win the next general election to consolidate its previous gains.
The NDC General Secretary, Johnson Aseidu Nketiah, also indicated that the party is committed to rescuing Ghanaians from the NPP’s poor governance in 2024.
The NDC General Secretary said the governing party has proven not to care about Ghanaians.
Parliament democratically while waning and watering down the influence of money in the choice of our candidates for competitive elections within the NDC.”
Mr Nketiah said the present situation is indicative of how badly the governing party has performed.
He expressed the NDC’s commitment to “rescuing Ghanaians from NPP’s bad leadership.”

He expressed the NDC’s commitment to “rescuing Ghanaians from NPP’s bad leadership.”
“We [the NDC] adopted the slogan of a rescue mission for 2020 elections. Unfortunately, that mission was not quite accomplished, but developments since then have made it more imperative for us to continue with the agenda to rescue this country.”
“And for anyone who doubts whether it is necessary to rescue the country at all, I leave you with a word from Professor Joseph Stiglitz, a professor at the Columbia University in his book ‘The price of inequality: How today’s divided society endangers our future’. The Professor stated, ‘When you see that in order to produce, you need to obtain permission from men who produce nothing – When you see that money is flowing to those who deal, not in goods, but in favours – When you see that men get richer by graft and by pull than by work, and your laws don’t protect you against them, but protect them against you – When you see corruption being rewarded and honesty becoming a self-sacrifice – You may know that your society is doomed’.”
“I will now leave you to compare the quote with the current situation in our country and draw your own conclusion. I believe you agree with us, the NDC, that this nation has to be rescued,” he added.
