Former President John Dramani Mahama, has described late Professor John Evans Atta Mills, as a true Ghanaian who had the quest for peace, excellence, transparency and above all integrity.
He also described the late President, as a man of great moral courage and strength which remains a source of inspiration to him and the country as a whole.
Former President Mahama, said this during the launch of the John Evans Atta Mills Memorial Heritage in Accra under the theme: “The Man John Evans Atta Mills 10 years on”.
The JEA Memorial Heritage, seeks to immotalise his persona, his time on earth and his legacy as one of Ghana’s most reputable Presidents. The Memorial Heritage will capitalise on his outstanding ideals and values.
Furthermore, it will highlight the qualities he exuded, to bring his values to light, embodying his selfless ideals commendable leadership and the unyielding integrity.
Speaking at the launch, Former President Mahama, said Professor Mills was a moral and political colossus that remains in the hearts and minds of Ghanaians.
He touted some accomplishments the late former President made while in office, which according to him, was under his guidance that the National Democratic Congress administration chalked most of its notable achievements, including the longest period of single digit inflation for more than two years adding that; it was the highest economic growth record not only in Ghana, but the world over at 14 percent for the year 2010.
Former President Mahama, also pointed out that late President John Evans Atta Mills was a man of great moral courage and strength who remains a source of inspiration to him and the country as a whole.
He recounted how Professor Mills mentored him in his political career and described him as a man who sacrificed his life for humanity, academia, sports, country and God.
Mr Mahama, therefore called on Ghanaians to stay united and uphold tolerance in respect to his selfless ideals, commendable leadership and unyielding integrity by the late professor.
He also described him as fair and firm and has a principle in ensuring decorous and disciplined conduct of people around him.
An elder statesman and Development Economist, Kwame Pianim in is keynote address, described the late President as a humble achiever, stating that he was very interested in uplifting the socio-economic circumstances of Ghanaians.
He explained that Professor Mills wanted people to live in dignity and prosperity, irrespective of where they belong.
Mr Pianim, urged Ghanaians to be guided by the values of truth, humility, transparency and accountability that Professor Mills exemplified and patience in his relationship with opponents within and outside his party.
He encouraged Ghanaians be bold and question the President on some of the appointments he makes indicating that the constitution has empowered Ghanaians to question the President if they find some of his decision as a problem.
Mr. Pianim charged all politicians to emulate the diligence and integrity the late John Evans Atta Mills attached to his duties when he was President of Ghana.
