The National Democratic Congress, NDC, Member of Parliament, MP, for the Madina Constituency, Xavier Francis Sosu, has organised a free eye screening exercise for constituents suffering from diverse eye problems in Madina.
The medical outreach which is one of his many annual events was organised in collaboration with the office of the MP and Qatar Charity was aimed at correcting various defects and complications among the constituents.
Qatar Charity is a humanitarian and development, a non-governmental organization in the Middle East established in 1992 in response to the thousands of children who were made orphans by the Afghanistan war.
The one-day exercise was used to provide free different medication depending on their conditions and eye glasses to those with mild conditions, while those with matured cataract were offered surgical operations to correct defects.
The free eye screening exercise, which was the 10th edition saw residents converging at the screening centre with a total recorded attendance of about 580 participants.
Speaking in an interview with The Herald on the exercise, the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the MP’s Health Project, Madam Lydia Owusu Kwarteng, said the exercise formed part of the MP’s annual engagement with the constituents and interact with them and also to provide them with healthcare.
She added that it was the MP’s vision to ensure that his constituents have access to quality healthcare, irrespective of their economic situations.
Madam Lydia Owusu Kwarteng, entreated people with eye-related complications to as a matter of urgency report to health facilities and get treatment, rather than sitting on the fence while complaining, stressing that due to medical advancement, surgery and treatment existed for cataract complications.
She therefore urged the beneficiary to support the legislators to bring development to the Madina constituency.
Meanwhile, more than 1,300 residents of Madina and adjoining communities on Monday April 3, 2023, benefited from a free health screening exercise organised by the MP for the Madina constituency.
With support from Qatar Charity, the exercise was meant to offer residents the opportunity to seek medical attention on any bordering health issues.
Madam Lydia Owusu Kwarteng reiterated that health is wealth and therefore, the need for everyone to know their health status and get immediate care.
“We must seek medical attention anytime we don’t feel comfortable or well in our health, in order to be able to move about freely and undertake our duties,” she urged.
She added that the MP, one of his goals for his constituency, is to bring health care right at the door step of the constituents, in order to help build a strong society.
