The country’s hospitals, will receive a big boost in the coming weeks when ventilators developed by the Academic City University College, would have been deployed for use.
Currently, the ventilators are undergoing the appropriate testing to confirm its standards and capacity.
These ventilators, were assembled by the Academic City University College during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic outbreak.
The Vice President, Dr Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, made this disclosures on Wednesday, August 17, 2020, during the official inauguration of the Academic City University College at Haatso in Accra.
The idea by the Academic City University College, according toDr Bawumia to develop ventilators at the onset of the covid, is very impressive.
Not only did he commend the school for the innovative minds, but for the fact that the ventilators were developed at less expensive rates.
He said, the Academic City University College, which has been in existence for only four years, has proven to be a force to reckon with in the educational sector of the country.
“ It has been only four years since the college was opened but has already contributed in shaping the focus of Ghana’s education “, the Vice President reiterated.
As it stands now, the Academic City University College, is the only institution which is undertaking Bachelor of Science degree in artificial intelligence, robotics and biomedical engineering.
There are concerns, however, that these courses and programmes will eventually lead to job losses since they will be doing the jobs of what trained humans being will be employed to do.
But in the opinion of the Vice President, those concerns are gradually being found to be unfounded.
This , he explained is among one of the reasons government has embarked on a digitalization drive which among others, is reducing corruption and sanitizing public sector institutions who can now boast of back up of all documents.
“ Government is pursuing technology not for the sake of it but for the solving of problems “ , he indicated
The founder and chairman of the Academic City University College, Dr. Dev Variyani, was optimistic that the education which is being provided in Ghana, has the potential to solve the problems of Africa which is why his institution is focused on programmes and courses which only seek to provide solution of modern day challenges.
He dropped hints of the school starting masters and PHD programmes in robotics, artificial intelligence and computer science engineering very soon.
The school which is barely four years old, graduated out its first batch of graduates numbering 43, three weeks ago.
In view of their passing out in various programs, including communications, computer science engineering, artificial intelligence, robotics and biomedical engineering, Dr Variyani, urged them to make a difference at wherever they will find themselves by excelling.
The inaugural ceremony had in attendance the global peace ambassador, Gurudev Sri Sri Shanker, who happens to have 23 degrees to his credit.
