The Office Of the Special Prosecutor, on Monday released a report indicting the Commissioner of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Col. Kwadwo Damoah (Rtd) a deputy Commissioner of Customs in charge of Operations, Joseph Adu Kyei in corruption-related acts involving Labianca Company.
Col. Damoah in his reaction, instead of defending himself and the allegations against him is rather throwing tantrums at the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyabeng, calling him a ‘small boy’.
He reminded him that, he worked so hard in his life to get this position, describing the report as ‘hollow’ and one that does not contain any substance while speaking at a Customs Division Management Retreat in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region, the Commissioner of the Customs explained that, the basis for the OSP’s investigative report was because he did not allow one Mr Akrugu to be seconded to the SP’s office.
He called the Special Prosecutor, who only heads the OSP all sorts of unprintable words but that tactics didn’t throw any light on issue to bring him out in a better public image.
Col. Damoah, is of the opinion that, some people are circling around him for their pound of flesh, using the Special Prosecutor as the harbinger.
This newspaper thinks, there is no smoke without fire. In this country, the only avenue for seeking redress is the law court, using words to discredit the work of an anti-corruption body, will not absolve one of wrong doing.
Col. Damoah, needs to be sober, responsible and open about the allegation and co-operate with Office of the Special Prosecutor to clear his name of any wrongdoing.
Wait a minute, no one asked him of his age, qualification, integrity etc, he does not need to remind Ghanaians of his age, why then must he remind us of all that, because these are not the issues in contention.
