The New Patriotic Party, NPP, Youth wing of the Akuapem North Constituency in the Eastern region, has apologize to President Akufo-Addo, for the irresponsible conduct displayed by their Youth Organiser, Kwadwo Owusu-Afriyie, popularly known as IGP towards him and condemned it in no uncertain terms.
Mr Owusu Afriyie in a press conference last Friday, showed gross disrespect and arrogance towards President Akufo-Addo and also threatened to blackmail the President with the very important and critical E-Levy Bill.
But a press statement issued by the Youth wing, stated that the things Mr Owusu Afriyie said, do not represent their views and do not in any way represent Akuapem youth, adding that they are known and acclaimed globally for their decorum, courtesy and respect.
The group, also pointed out that they are known to be humble to a fault and would not under any circumstance put out such words to anyone let alone the President of Ghana who happens to be a son of the Akuapem Soil.
They also seized the opportunity to extend their sincerest apologies to the National Chairman of the NPP, Freddy Blay and the General Secretary, John Boadu for the arrogant, disrespectful posture and manner in which the gentleman referred to them live on Facebook.
According to the Youth wing, the election of polling station executives which ended smoothly was peaceful, fair and the most transparent process they have witnessed recently in any internal elections.
“Indeed, we are grateful to the Regional and National Executives of the Party for their leadership and cooperation and the swiftness with which they addressed all grievances during the process. We congratulate the Constituency Elections Committee for such a high level of transparency and fairness at the polls and warmly congratulate all winners of the Polling Station Elections. Let’s work together to break the 8”. They opined.
The group cautioned Mr Kwadwo Owusu-Afriyie, to desist from using the name of Akuapem Youth indiscriminately and in a manner that will bring such shame and embarrassment to them saying; he is the Youth organizer with a specific mandate of mobilizing the youth of the constituency for the party but not a spokesperson for the youth of this Constituency.
“We would have wished he spent the same energy to deliver on his mandate. He has so far been the worst performing Youth organizer in the history of NPP in this constituency with zero initiative so far and to embark on such a needless attack on the President of the land and leadership of our party is most unfortunate”.
“For someone who purports to have landed a new job at the AFCTA office and was sharing his congratulatory fliers all over the place under this same president, the least we expected of him was to show respect to H.E the President. We hope the venerable Trade Minister is taking notice of such bad character and should immediately sanction him”. The group added.
The Youth wing of the NPP stated that they take full responsibility for his disrespect towards the President because they sat aloof and allowed this to fester for too long.
The statement reiterated that they ignored his persistent attacks on the former Municipal Chief Executive, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, the constant attacks on the Vice President, Dr Mahamud Bawumia and also went on a rampage on the National Organiser of the party, Sammie Awuku.
“For a long while, we ignored his ruthless verbal attacks on several low and high profile party people. Indeed, if we had taken decisive action by calling him to order, we would not have gotten here”.
“We will not threaten him, we will not give him any ultimatum to apologize for such disgraceful acts. We can only assure the party leadership and the President that we will engage him indoors and try to imbibe into him some of the Akuapem Values to make sure he comes out a better person”, they added.
They called on the Eastern regional leadership of the NPP, to quickly take disciplinary actions against him to serve as a deterrent to other party people which they noted that the party has structures, rules, leadership and must be respected at all times.
“We are fully aware of the relationship between the gentleman and our MP and we sincerely hope he was not speaking her mind.
We will urge Nana Ama Dokua to participate fully in all government business, but in an unfortunate situation these threats are carried out, we would urge the party to take swift action in imposing sanctions.
The Youth and People of Akuapem North, give our full backing in this endeavor. This Party and Government has shown a lot of good faith in our MP and the Youth Organiser and it’s only fair they reciprocate that.” The group stated.
The NPP Youth wing of the Akuapem North Constituency, therefore appealed to President Akufo-Addo, to continue doing the good job he is doing for the people of Okuapemman and Ghana as a whole.
