Putting months of speculation to rest, it is now official that Member of Parliament for Assin North, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, will contest for the flagbearership slot of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
A decision, such as this, is what elicits the saying, wonders shall never end. Make no mistake I am not saying the minister is not qualified to lead the NPP, but remember is not all that is desired is allowed.
Anyone seeking to occupy the office of president of any country, must not only have deep pocket, must have the character, gravitas and the resolve to lead.
The excuse many have given over the years to put themselves up for elected positions is that, the people are those calling for them, but in the case of Kennedy Agyapong, I don’t know what the motivation or rational is, perhaps I could attempt to answer that for him.
Politics is a serious business and anyone who is up for it, but possess certain attributes. Kennedy Agyapong, does not have what it takes to be the Commander In Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces.
Donald Trump, used his money and little influence he had to become the president of the United States of America, making him the most powerful man on earth. We all saw how a disaster of a president he was.
The once God’s own country, the world’s superpower, the bastion of democracy, the dream of every child, leaders in technology, etc, was reduced to a laughing stock by Donald Trump.
Not only did he become the most ridiculed president in the history of America, he also succeeded in reducing America to scorn and even in the dying embers of his presidency, he refused to go down quietly.
To become President of Ghana, like any other country is an honour and privilege few people will get, and so it must be said that, anyone who occupies that position must have the temperament and presence of mind to steer the affairs of State.
Kennedy Agyapong is a rubble rouser, a braggart who does not know the boundaries of decency. It must be stated, however, that it is only in the New Patriotic Party that, a person like Ken, will even contemplate leading the country.
Governance is a serious business and should not be left with politicians, who could best be described as comedians, who come under the pretext of popular call by the people to come and serve.
Every person before the law is innocent until proven otherwise, but in a country where consequences follow malfeasance, Kennedy Agyapong, will never long for the presidency.
We have come a long way as a country, not to allow any Tom, Dick and Harry, to lead us. The country made a fatal mistake in 2016, when it elected Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to lead it. This is a mistake that, the country will pay for, for a very long time.
The country cannot afford any mistake again, else we will condemn generations yet unborn to a life of misery and penury.
Everyone has the right to dream, but the consequence of that dream, if it affects the larger society, like a plague must be tackled with a force stronger than apartheid.
Some people are born to follow, others are born to lead, the same way, some people can only act as catalyst, Kennedy Agyapong, should see himself as a catalyst, who can help others to get to the presidency, but for him, as we used to sing (Jama) in secondary school, he eyes will see Canaan, but his legs will never touch there.
The question of whether Kennedy Agyapong, can run for the president is both moral and legal, legally he can, but morally he is not fit for the highest office of the land.
If talking and I mean bragging, is what is required to be president, I will vote for Ken anytime, any day, but governing over 30 million people goes beyond words.
A man, who does not know when to keep quiet cannot superintend over the security and safety of a country. We saw as I illustrated earlier how almighty America sunk under Trump, we cannot wish the same for Ghana, under Kennedy Agyapong.
Kennedy Agyapong, should spend whatever time, he has left to serve as a Member of Parliament for the people of Assin North, instead of embarking on this wild goose chase, which the people of Ghana are not disposed to subscribe to.
Ghana is on the brink of imploding, the economy is wobbling, inflation and unemployment rates are at an all-time high, consumer goods’ prices are spiraling out of control and energy crisis is becoming perennial.
Anyone, who loves Ghana and Ghanaians, should stay clear of helping either through open support, funding or promoting this unbridled ambition.
Running and winning an election not about how much money you have or how loud you can shout, but your ability and capacity to build bridges and bring everyone on board. Kennedy Agyapong lacks the finesse and gravitas to do that.
Let us concede, Kennedy Agyapong is not a political novice, he has been around since the early 2000, so an underestimation of his political prowess is dangerous, while over-estimation of its dexterity is a fleeting illusion. That said, I don’t think he should misinterpret his popularity to mean, he is ready to lead the NPP. As they say fear delegates, he will receive the shock of his life, should he go ahead with this ill-advised ambition.
A man has lost his life, because of the loose talk of Kennedy Agyapong, I am referring to Ahmed Hussein Suale, he has publicly threaten innocent people, including journalists, just imagine that person becoming the president of Ghana, having all state security at his disposal, the havoc he will cause.
This indeed is a joke taken too far.
