The President, Nana Akufo-Addo, has appointed Dr Bernard Okoe Boye, as Chief Executive of the struggling National Health Authority (NHIA).
He takes over from Dr. Lydia Selby-Djane as head of an institution which has been saddled with heavy debt.
The ex-Member of Parliament (MP) for the Ledzokuku Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, was initially billed to head the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA).
A letter signed by the Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, said the appointment takes effect from May 3, 2022.
The letter dated Wednesday April 21, 2022, said the appointment is in pursuant to section 14 (1) of the National Health Insurance Act, 2021(852).
The former Deputy Minister of Health and ex-Board Chairman of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital since his defeat, has remained a truly committed party loyalist defending the NPP on every conceivable media platform.
He starts off with greeting every influential person in his party and the Akufo-Addo government, and sometimes even sings their favourite songs and hymns for them while on air.
Meanwhile, the Director of Communications at Presidency, Eugene Arhin, had congratulated Dr Okoe Boye.
Mr Arhin, who took to his Facebook page wrote, “Congratulations to my fellow Ɔdadeɛ, Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye, on his appointment as CEO of the National Health Insurance Authority. His appointment takes effect from Tuesday, 3rd May 2022”.
Dr Okoh Boye, is said to be at Law School, and it remains unclear, how he would combine his work at the NIA, and a very demanding studies, as a law student.
