The Family Health University College (FHUC) has celebrated the 2022 graduation with 41 doctors, whiles it held the matriculation for 59 students at the premises of the school at Teshie in Accra.
On the same day, 257students which comprises 57 midwives and 200 nursing students, were admitted to undertake their programmes.
The two sessions were held separately due to the large number of students involved.
In a welcome address, the President of the Family Health Medical School, Prof. YaoKwawukume, assured them of the best of teaching.
He said, the privilege of joining the school comes with the responsibility of upholding the school ‘s vision.
“I therefore encourage you to strive for excellence and be disciplined. You should carefully apportion the time you spend on your books, on social engagements and on social media”, he stressed .
“Be analytical, and learn how to question received wisdom in a refined manner. Your primary aim for coming here is to study and I urge you to channel your energies in that direction”, he added.
To the graduates, he urged them to make the best out of opportunities that will come their way.
“There is nothing we need more in these days than people who are ready to face challenges. You can do it. You must do it”, he said
The deputy Minister for Education, Rev. Ntim Fordour, who was the guest of honor, said government is seeking to reach the World Health organization ( WHO) recommended ratio of 1 doctor to 1000 patients that is why the doctors which are being churned out by the Family Health Medical School is most appreciated.
Government, he indicated is doing well to give more support to the private sector to do more when it comes to such training.
He therefore revealed that government is in the process of finalizing the process where a pre- medical programme will be introduced at the secondary school level to give opportunity to people who do not make it to medical school to have a background in medicine.
In all, Ms. Leaticia Brenda Mattah Naossi of the 2021 Bsc Medical Science swept eight awards, including the overall best student, whiles Mr Samuel Sasraku Mensah, also swept five awards for the 2022 class for the same Bsc Medical Science.
