The Jamong family of Bunkpurugu in the North East Region, has entreated the Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to stay off chieftaincy issues in the area.
Not only are the family asking the Vice President to stay off, but also the Member of Parliament, Mr Solomon Boar.
This caution, follow claims of allegation that both the Vice President and the Member of Parliament, have been interfering in the dispute to favour one party, despite a judgment which has settled a supposed dispute some 93 years ago.
Addressing a press conference in Accra on Monday September 2, 2024, members of the Jamong family, revealed that the 93 year judgement was reaffirmed at the Northern regional House of Chiefs when the matter went there after it was pending from 1986.
Spokesperson for the Jamong family, Mr Mark Musah, who addressed the press conference, further explained that the current chief of Bunkpurugu, Alhaji Abuba Nasinmong, was not happy with the Northern Reginal House of Chief’s reaffirmation and therefore appealed the decision at the National House of Chiefs in Kumasi in 2019.
Mark Musah, who spoke on a wide range of issues, revealed that after the National House of Chiefs wrote to the feuding factions for a final determination on August 28, 2024, they arrived at the venue and met an empty House.
The action of the National House of Chiefs to absent themselves according to the Jamong family, was communicated by one Irene, who is said to be the Secretary.
But more worrying for the Jamong family at the press conference was the claim that the current chief is parading in the community, boasting to have scuttled the Judgement at the National House of Chiefs.
In this vein, the Spokesperson and members of the Jamong family, called on the National House of Chiefs to clear it name by setting a date for the judgement and communicating same to them.
Reacting to these allegations when The Herald reached out to him, the Chief of Bunkpurugu, Alhaji Abuba Nasinmong, disagreed and dismissed all the claims made against him.
For him, the Jamong family are not Bimobas and cannot lay claims to the Brungkrugu skin which is a Bimoba land.
“Tell the Jamong family that I am saying they are not Bimobas and even the name Jamong was a nickname given to them “, he alleged.
“ The Nayiri is the overlord of Mamprugu, who has the power to install a chief in Bunkpurugu and I went through all the processes to become a chief.
Chief Abuba admitted being the son of the sister to the Nayiri, but explained he does not trace his royalty to his matrimonial heritage.
On the issue of the National House of Chiefs, he said he is not to be held responsible for the indefinite postponement on the case.
According to him, he received a message from his lawyer’s about the indefinite postponement of the case and he complied by staying home, which is why he didn’t show up in Kumasi on the 28th of August, 2024 for the final judgement.
