The National Democratic this weekend at the Accra Sports Stadium, will converge in one of a crucial moment in the life of the party to elect its national officers to lead the party into the 2024 general elections.
As is characteristics of every election, they have been allegations and counter allegations with tempers rising high. Prelude to this was the election of the youth wing, as well as the women wing of the party, which has left in its wake bitter shocks and surprises that some of the losing candidates are yet to come to terms with.
The NDC is the only political party in Ghana, which parades a crop of politicians who have what it takes to turn the fortunes of the country around and it is the reason why it is expected that this should be an advantage in managing its internal elections, as well as adding value to its affairs.
As it stands now, the opposition party is not at peace with itself, and that could portend doom for the citizenry, who are looking up to the NDC to rescue them from the New Patriotic Party.
With a weak governance provided by the Akufo-Addo government, the NDC, has curiously constituted itself into an opposition seemingly engaged in self-destruct.
This newspaper is of the view that lovers of the party, have to take urgent measures to restore cohesion within the rank and file in a manner that will restore the confidence of the people in the ability of the opposition party to win the 2024 elections.
Finally, we insist that it is dangerous for the NDC to assume that Ghanaians are fools and can be taken for granted. Its leaders should learn some lessons from what happened to the party in 2016.
This newspaper, however, wishes the various contestants the very best of luck. May the NDC and Ghana be the winner at the end of the polls.
