Even before president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, leaves office on January 7, 2025, Asaase Radio, which began official transmission on June 14, 2020, and is linked to the first family, especially, Gabby AsareOtchere Darko, it is becoming obvious by the day, why the radio frequency was acquired.
The station, only have one mission and that is to protect and project the legacy of Akufo-Addo, when he leaves office, a job that it has already begun in earnest.
Since its establishment, it has not relented in that mission, the station is so close to the Seat of government that, almost all the appointments of the president, were first announced by the Station. Whether ministers of state or heads of government agencies, once Asaase Radio, announces it, it means, it is coming from the Horse’s own mouth, as we say in Ghana.
The latest in furtherance of that agenda, is a video shared by Asaase Radio on their X page, where President Akufo-Addo, declared his profound satisfaction with his performance during his time in office, asserting that he has diligently served the nation and its people amidst the adversities faced throughout his tenure.
He pointed out that his accomplishments are transparent for all to observe and assess, whether in education, healthcare, infrastructure, transportation, or other vital economic sectors.
Akufo-Addo also highlighted the implementation of strategies that have significantly contributed to the nation’s fight against the persistent issue of corruption.
The president expressed immense pride in his contributions and is confident that his legacy will be celebrated by future generations for its significant impact.
“I’m exceedingly proud of my record in office and the considerable achievements that have been recorded in all sectors of national life these last seven and a half years, one or two of which have been very difficult as a result of global developments. Whether it is in the management of the national economy, education, healthcare, roads, railways, digitalization, infrastructural development, agricultural and industrial transformation, or the protection of Ghana’s territorial integrity and security.
“The fight against corruption, the battle against environmental degradation, the response to the Covid-19 pandemic entrenching the tenets of good governance and the rule of law, contributing to the attainment of regional and continental integration and unity… The record is there for all to see.
This statement is impulsive, illogical and entirely in keeping with the manner in which Akufo-Addo, has governed in the last seven and half years.
President Akufo-Addo, is funny indeed. Ghanaians are the ones to judge you, whether you met their expectations or not. You cannot as you Lawyers say, be a judge in your own case.
All the indices that the president highlighted and scored himself high marks, his legacy in government will be, and is being, determined by politics and how his government ends. But just as significant to that legacy is how it started off.
Akufo-Addo’s problem is not just parochialism and nepotism, which are now bywords for his administration. Perhaps his biggest character flaw is unqualified personal loyalty to his benefactors and loyalists. Time and again, it has led him into the corruption of enabling and defending graft.
In December 2016, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who has contested in 2008, 2012, and 2016, pulled off a stunning victory at the presidential election to unseat an incumbent president.
Ghanaians, had high hopes in Akufo-Addo, when he came into office and he did make commitments to tackle challenges in governance that were mostly driven by politics.
After more than seven years in office and with less than seven months left for him to complete his tenure, Ghanaians are left grappling with immense economic hardship, soaring inflation, and a falling currency that continues to depreciate, despite strategies mapped out to rein it in.
For most political observers, the President’s inaugural pledge to steer the nation towards prosperity has fallen drastically short of expectation, leaving some citizens disillusioned and others questioning the efficacy of his policies and leadership style.
Ghanaians deserve a government that can articulate a clear vision and translate it into tangible results, not a series of disjointed measures that fail to address the root causes of the nation’s woes.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is ruthless in its pursuit of power, when it gets the power, it understands the value of same, but is terrible in meeting the expectations of the people.
Clearly, the president who gave Ghanaians hope, has failed to deliver on his promise. As glaring as his failures are, he has refused to allow Ghanaians suffer in silence. He spares no chance to remind us how lucky we are to have him. He compares himself to our founder and first president, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, he sometimes even forgets himself, declaring that, he has performed better in every area than any president in the Fourth Republic.
On May Day, the president declared that, the power crisis, popularly known as dumsor, was over, but unfortunately, it has only gotten worse. The epileptic nature of the power crisis now, has left Ghanaians wondering, what crime they committed by listening to him when, he cried “Try Me too”.
Fortunately, for the president, knowing what awaits him, once he lives office, he has decided to establish for himself a mouthpiece that, would defend his failures and his bad legacy. Asaase Radio, has been well resourced and positioned to do exactly that.
The lesson for the NDC and John Mahama is that, you don’t expect anyone to tell your story, whether bad or good, you will best tell it yourself.
They is only one certainty as far as the December 7, election is concerned and that is, the victory of the NDC is coming again, Ghanaians have had enough of this clueless and heartless government and are yearning for change.
There is only one political party that cares about their welfare and that is the NDC, but 2025, must not be business as usual.
John Mahama should not have to tell us of how a media cabal has taken control of the media in Ghana and makes it difficult for people to discern the truth.
It is not difficult to get your information out there, as far as you have your mouthpiece, after all, he who pays the piper calls the tune.
When Twitter suspended the account of former president of the United States of America, Donald Trump, in 2021, due to the risk of incitement of violence, he launched his social media platform, called Truth Social, to enable him reach out to his supporters.
He did not lament or threw his hands in despair, he quickly found a solution and that sustained him until twitter reinstated his account. He even had the nerve to tell Twitter, he was no longer interested.
All hope is not lost for the NDC, Woezor TV, which has projected John Mahama and the NDC for some time now, has held the fort for the party, covering and carrying most of its programmes live
The path, has been cleared for the party, as to where to start from, Woezor TV should be well resourced and given a frequency to operate.
