The verdict is out, even for the doubting thomases, who still think the Akufo-Addo led government should be given the benefit of the doubt.
I do not feel it is right to call anyone a failure, let alone a leader of a country, but to conclude that Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, is a failure, is not an attempt at soiling the image of the president of Ghana, but in my own view, however, he lacks an honourable mind, because of his penchant to break promises.
We know that, this country has had its moments of ups and downs. We have seen corruption before, but the country still had some sense of consciousness and a sense that things could still be rescued. Not so today. What we have today is undiluted despondency.
Akufo-Addo’s administration is not only hopelessly lost but it is hopelessly hopeless. It gives off an unmistakable odour of bereavement. It could not prepare itself to get going because it was lifeless on arrival.
Akufo-Addo, cuts the picture of a person who would struggle to get out of his own bathroom without the aid of a GPS. But behold, he is in the driver’s seat but his hands are not on the wheel and that is what worries me and many Ghanaians.
I thought, I was the only one disappointed in the performance of the president, until I watched what happened last Saturday, during the Global Citizen Festival, the president had been introduced to tout the government’s moves in prioritising women empowerment among other causes in line with the organisers’ mission for social justice. That was things were confirmed to me.
But even before the president could make his point, the crowd of youthful revellers chanted against his presence. They booed at him while others shouted ‘away!’ as he finished his speech.
The first question I asked myself was, what is Alan Kojo Kyeremanten, Minister for Trade and Industry, waiting for until he resigns to pursue his presidential ambition, to at least first of all, rescue the New Patriotic Party (NPP) from the clueless and rudderless Akufo-Addo and his family and friends.
A lot of sympathizers of the NPP and by extension Ghanaians are waiting for the day when mediocrity, hypocrisy, impunity and corruption will be reduced to the barest minimum and this can only be possible when Alan Kyereamanten emerges as the flagbearer of the party.
But in order to restore the confidence of Ghanaians, he must first of all jump the sinking ship. The die is cast and there is no turning back for this government. No amount of spinning will save it. Alan has maintained his credibility in the face of wanton and unbridled corruption. He is the hope the party has of restoration.
Ghana in the last six years has remained a place where few men are accumulating wealth at the expense of the rest of us, a country so rich, yet the current leadership has been choking it and everyone in it.
The helpless people of Ghana are today under the sway of an unprecedented phenomenon called Nana Akufo-Addo; A capitalist by any measure who is at present our country’s President.
The president’s style is based on twin foundations. First he surrounds himself and places key posts in the hands of avaricious charlatans. Secondly, he employs all the power at his disposal in silencing the voice of enlightened criticism.
Unfortunately, the ingénues around him, instead of urging, like good advisers, restraint, tolerance and civility, cheer their boss into his waterloo. It is a classic comedy of the village headmaster in a village council.
This is the man many Ghanaians s thought was a good man? Clearly his oath of office meant absolutely nothing to him.
For Alan to continue serving in this administration is to accept to share the blame, which by every account Ghanaians are not ready to forgive. The longer he stays in the government, he puts himself in a difficult position to ask for forgiveness from Ghanaians, who have had it.
Experts are predicting that, things will get worse next year, as if it is not worse already. I am wondering how worse things could get, because we are barely surviving this one. The sins of Akufo-Addo, will be visited on anyone in his government, who refused to speak when things are going wrong.
Alan Kyeremanten is a gentleman par excellence, he has kept his cool and composure in the midst of all that has been going on since 2017, by resigning from this government, he will have demonstrated that, he shares in the pain Ghanaians are going through and is standing by them.
Ghana is a country with great potentials, this is manifested in the abundant of resources, both human and natural and this makes development a must, but to be failing almost in all fronts, can only be attributed to leadership.
Akufo-Addo, has failed by every account and the worry some of us are having is that, he has more than two years until his tenure is over. No trick in the book can save him, if anything at all, it is Ghanaians, who will suffer this remaining two years.
They are very few good men left in Akufo-Addo’s administration and Alan certainly is one of them.
He has handled the ministry of Trade and Industry with tact and deserves commendation. The noise that often accompanies such sensitive portfolios is almost absent in that ministry.
The drum of corruption that beats in every ministry is not heard in that ministry, thanks to the able-leadership of Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten.
He is a man of all seasons- boundless and limitless. Imbued with the heart of gold, the man can go all lengths to see people in pain happy. Highly detribalized and free-spirited, he has no boundaries as everyone with value is his regardless of their tribe, faith or creed.
Perilously intelligent, smart and foresighted, he combines native intelligence with uncanny brilliance to provide solutions to personal and administrative burdens- a master strategist with nose for excellence.
Unarguably, one of the most popular tested and experienced ministers in the current administration, making a diffference. He is widely referred to as Alan Cash.
My prayer is that Alan Kyeremanten and the like, remain relevant in the future analysis of the New Patriotic Party, as new frontiers open up, where purposeful leadership and tested hands are an imperative to the continued development of Ghana our motherland.
He has a decision to make, which if you ask me is time-bound. Every day he remains at post, he makes it difficult for Ghanaians to trust and forgive him. President Akufo-Addo, has sacrificed over 30 million Ghanaians on the altar of greed, family and friends, insensitivity etc, Alan Kyeremenaten, will only be sacrificing Akufo-Addo, if he decides to resign.
He should save himself and whatever is left of his presidential ambition, the boat he is in now, is sinking so fast, it cannot be saved.
Posterity will not forgive him, should he stay on while the country continues to burn. In any case his main contender, Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, is campaigning around the country in the name of tour. Alan must also make hay, while the sun shines. Time no dey, ooh.
