It was a particularly difficult year, and what happened in it will largely shape the desires, expectations and aspirations of Ghanaians this year.
Going by their experiences, they are a lot of things Ghanaians expect from the Akufo-Addogovernment, but it looks like things will be even harder for them, if nothing drastic and concrete is done.
First is the matter of economy. Ghanaians are going through serious economic and financial crisis, due largely to the mismanagement of the economy, coupled with the devastating effect of Covid-19.
The rate of inflation in the last couple of months before the end of 2021, has made nonsense of the purchasing power of the citizens.
The rising cost of petroleum product at every pricing window, ensure that, prices of goods and services, also went out of the roof.
This year, Ghanaians, would like to see the fight against corruption become more efficient and effective. Government should provide budgetary allocation to all the state institutions responsible for fighting corruption.
There needs to be stringent deterrence to stop the malpractice and these include; prosecution.
Corruption in its various aspects is the reason we cannot attain most of our national goals. Ghana needs to kill it, or it will completely ruin the country.
Third is the matter of security, there needs to be drastic improvement in the level of security Ghanaians enjoy in their country.
Armed robbery and highway robbery, became another headache for Ghanaians. That the police are recording progress under the new Inspector General of Police is not in doubt. The security agencies must tackle the criminals head-on, because no sane investorwill put his money in an environment thatis not safe.
As a newspaper, we encourage Ghanaians not to give up, but to remain hopeful and patriotic in whatever they do, for nation building is everybody’s business.
