Tsatsu Tsikata to deliver keynote address at Atta Mills’ lecture

Celebrated Ghanaian lawyer and former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana National Petroleum Company (GNPC), will give the keynote address to climax the 10th-anniversary commemorative lectures on the death of the late President, Professor John Evans Atta Mills.

Tsatsu Tsikata, was a colleague lecturer of the late President at the Faculty of Law at the University of Ghana, Legon.

The two, had remained close friends until the death of Prof Atta Mills, who obtained his doctorate at age 27.

The lecture is being organised by the John Evans Atta Mills Memorial Heritage on Tuesday July 26, 2022.

This was disclosed by the Board Chairman of the Heritage, Dr Alex Segbefia, at a press conference in Accra, to brief the media and the general public on activities lined up to commemorate the 10th-anniversary celebration of the demise of President Atta Mills.

According to him, the highlight of the 10th-anniversary commemoration, will be the 10th-anniversary commemorative lecture, which will be chaired by Nana Otuo Siriboe II, Omanhene of Juaben Traditional Area, and the Chairman of the Council of State.

The lecture, will be held at the International Conference Centre (ICC) in Accra at would start at 2:00 pm with outstanding personalities.

Dr Segbefia, stated that the President Evans Atta Mills regional memorial lectures, have begun in earnest throughout Ghana, adding that the Northern sector regional lectures comprising the five regions in Northern Ghana, including; Northern, Savannah, Upper West, Upper East, and North-East regions, had been successfully held.

He also announced that on June 24, 2022, the second series of regional lectures was held for the Western and Central regions at the University of Cape Coast.

Dr Segbefia, also highlighted the scheduled activities to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the demise of President John Evans Atta Mills.

Some of the scheduled activities include; on July 21, 2022, a statement will be delivered on the floor of Parliament by the Minority caucus to commemorate the 10th anniversary and will be read by his brother, Samuel Atta Mills, Member of Parliament (MP) for Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrim Constituency.

The John Evans Atta Mills Memorial Memorial Heritage, will also pay a courtesy call on the Chief Imam, Dr Osman Nuhu Sharubutu on July 21, 2022.

Dr Segbefia said on Friday 22nd July 2022, at 1:00 pm, Muslim prayers will be held in remembrance of the late President at designated Mosques throughout the country including the Central Mosque in Kanda, Al Sunni Mosque at Nima, Ahmadiyya Mosque at Labone, and the Shai Mosque at Accra New Town.

He added that on July 23, 2022, at 8:30 am, the President John Atta Mills Memorial Hockey Tournament, will be held at the Ghana National Hockey Pitch in Accra.

On July 24, 2022, at 1:00 pm, the 10th-anniversary wreath-laying ceremony and memorial service for the late President will be held at the Asomdwee Park near the Independence Square in Accra.

He stressed that the wreath-laying ceremony is being organised by the National Democratic Congress (NDC), explaining that although there is another ceremony at the park in the morning, he urged party faithful and the public to attend the ceremony.

Dr Segbefia, concluded by describing the late President as a beacon of hope for the people he encountered, particularly the youth he dealt with in his leadership roles as a statesman.

The Heritage was birthed and duly incorporated on October 14, 2021. After its incorporation, it was launched on February 2022.
