Dubbed the Accra West Startup Summit, these youth who are from various backgrounds are expected to come out with mobile applications which will solve today’s challenges of all aspects of the human life.

The expectation from these teams, reflected the theme for the summit which was : “Mobile Applications For Sustainable Business Development and Job Creation In Accra West”.

In all, seven startups made presentation and were assessed  by three judges who made interventions on how some of the startups can improve .

The judges, therefore, awarded prizes to startups who impressed and in some of the cases promised to link the startups to some already established businesses in the country.

These startup teams at the January 14 summit were PharmNet , Care Spot, The Mechanic, Di Dwa , Kiddie Learning, Tourizilla and The Equity Agency all of whom made presentations.

At the end of the presentations, Tourizilla was adjudged the best with Kiddie Learning taking the first runner up position   and Di Dwa taking the award for third best team.

Speaking to Journalists after the summit, the Head of Business Development at Ghana Tech Lab, Ms.Baaba Simpson,  said all the startups who impressed will move on to the next stage of the training which is the incubation level.

At this level, however, the startups she noted will be further trained for a two month period during which they would be supported with equipment such as laptops computers while others too will benefit from mentorship arrangement.

The incubation stage, she pointed out will assemble another batch of startups who will eventually take part in a national summit hopefully in April of this year, after which those whose ideas meet a certain mobile applications development standard will be supported with investors who are expected to help them further develop their applications successfully for use.

The Ghana Tech Lab summit, is being organized with support from the World Bank, the Master Card Foundation and the Ministry of Communications.
