The President’s Nominee to the possible of Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Haruna Mohammed Awal, has received an impressive 100percent endorsement to become the Municipal Chief Executive of the Assembly.
He garnered all 18 votes in a confirmation electoral exercise which was supervised by the Electoral Commission.
All the 18 Assembly members voted “Yes” to confirm him, after he was nominated by President John Dramani Mahama.
In a brief remark, he expressed his gratitude and promised to give the municipality a face-lift.
He pledged to build on the successes of his predecessor and focus on fighting crime and collaborating with the private sector to create jobs for the teeming youth.
One other nominee , Dr Michael Mensah, who is pencilled for the Ayawaso West Municipal Assembly, failed to secure the confirmation, as the exercise ended abruptly over protest by some of the NDC aligned Assembly members .
With a total of 18 Assembly members, six are government appointees and the remaining 13 elected members.
Claims were that the NDC aligned members, voted “No” as a sign of protest over the Nominee, who is the Vice Chairman of the NDC for the Ayawaso West Wougon constituency.
Information was that he has a bad relationship with his colleagues, who sought to use the confirmation process to have their pound of flesh.
A lecturer at the University of Ghana, Dr Mensah is accused by some of the Assembly members of being rude and arrogant.
Another Nominee, Mr Rudolf Collin-Williams, who was to be confirmed to become the Chief Executive Officer for the Ayawaso Central Municipal Assembly, also failed to secure the mandate of the Assembly members.
In a similar fashion, some of the Assembly members, believe they have been sidestepped, when they were better placed to become Chief Executive.
Earlier, the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Akweley Ocloo, who observed the three exercises, called for a smooth process.
