The New Patriotic Party (NPP) says its upcoming primaries to elect candidates for the 2024 general elections will be devoid of partiality.
General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong reiterated the commitment of the party to conduct “free and fair” primaries, particularly with the one to elect its new flagbearer.
The party is set to have a new candidate for a presidential election for the first time in 15 years.
The stakes are said to be high as Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and Minister of Trade and Industry Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen are the bookmakers’ frontrunners.
Already, some of the executives elected during last month’s National Annual Delegates’ Conference at the Accra Sports Stadium have been accused of being in the camp of one or the other.
But speaking at the 30th anniversary Muslim prayers of the party on Friday, July 29, Mr Kodua Frimpong assured the rank and file that the primaries will be free and fair.
“Let me reiterate it here that the national party will bring forth a free and fair elections when it gets to the presidential primaries and I have said on several platforms that as General Secretary of the party, I will be impartial and I will not take sides in the presidential primaries,” the former Executive Director of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) said.
“So, we urge all national officers, regional officers and constituency officers to adhere to that request.”
The primaries have been scheduled for next year.
