Ghanaian musician Thunder Gospelz disclosed to Helen Appiah-Ampofo on the Star Zone segment of 3FM Sunrise Morning Show that he quit music for about seven years because he realized that he was not getting the expected response and support from the people.
Obomofour Thunder started his music career as a rapper with his partner in 2001. The hip-life music duo known as Abamofour released their first album with the hit song titled ‘Meda Ho Ma Wo’. Later, he went solo as Obomofour Thunder to release another hit song titled ‘Adwoa Fowaa’.
“It was a bit hard for me to get recognition with my new songs like I had with my first two albums. Afterwards, I had a lot of mishaps here and there, in terms of producer and promotion so I stopped doing music about seven years when I returned from Europe” he mentioned
According to him, the way of making money from music back in the day is different from the present. He indicated that cassettes and CDs were sold in the various music distribution stores and even executive Producers were paying money upfront for albums but now it is mostly from online streams that revenue could be generated.
“When we started the music journey back in 2001, we were full of passion and because recording studios were not common, it was always exciting when a producer tells you were going to the studio to record some songs,” Thunder Gospelz recalled.
When asked why he switched to gospel music, he disclosed that an encounter with a certain elderly man led him to a church where he enjoyed the service and subsequently got to know Christ. It was after some years of going to church that he had the inspiration to rekindle his musical talent but this time make songs that will praise God, motivate and entertain people.
Thunder Gospelz has released his latest urban gospel song titled ‘I’m on Fire’ which is receiving attention but he is appealing for more support. “I know if I am given the kind of support Joe Mettle, Diana Hamilton, Sonny Badu and the likes are receiving, I believe I can do more,” he appealed.
