The Minority in Parliament is calling on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, as a matter of urgency, to dissolve the current Economic Management Team (EMT).
The caucus says the current economic woes plaguing the country cannot be blamed on any other than members of the EMT led by Vice President Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
The demand was made by Minority Spokesperson on Energy John Abdulai Jinapor, who was addressing journalists over the current crisis occasioned by the hikes in fuel prices, on Friday, March 18.
The former Deputy Minister of Power recalled how the Mahama-led administration introduced “pragmatic” policies such as the Energy Sector Levy that went a long way to cushion Ghanaians in the face of international price hikes on fuel.
But he said even proceeds into the fund cannot be accounted for by the current government.
“Ladies and gentlemen, our checks indicated that the Energy Sector Levy Act has accrued over GH¢18 billion since its inception.
“Our checks have further revealed that only GH¢15 billion have been spent and yet the balance of GH¢3 billion cannot be accounted for.”
The Yapei-Kusawgu lawmaker says there is no option left than the EMT to be dissolved as the members have run out of ideas.
“This government has been a monumental failure,” Mr Jinapor said.
“We call on President Akufo-Addo to dissolve the Economic Management Team because they have not lived up to expectation. Indeed, if I were the Vice President what I would be doing is to tender in my resignation as head of the Economic Management Team.
“This performance has been abysmal. Indeed the failure of this government is legendary.”
